Technically if they are employees of the school it doesn't change much. The revenue from football would still fund a lot of the other sports.

Now that might not be possible. For this to work, football might have to be licensed out completely to a private company. Take LSU for example, LSU could contract the football program out to say an "LSU Football LCC". This private company could easily be founded by LSU boosters and have a President that works directly with the LSU Athletic Director.

In this scenario, the football players would be under contract with the private company, not LSU. Due to this, they would not be state employees, so LSU wouldn't pay them at all. LSU would also not be responsible for providing a free education, living arrangements, food/nutritionists or doctors/medical personnel. Each LSU football player would negotiate it's own contract with the private company. The contracts would be 2 years, making sure the players are committed for 2 seasons. The private company, as part of the contract with the players, could pay for living expenses, food/nutritionists and doctors/medical personnel. The private company would technically rent out Tiger Stadium for games, though LSU could just essentially rent out to them for like $0.01.

As for revenue, it would be setup to where LSU would still get the majority of the revenue. The private company would be provided enough money for their operations outside of player contracts, such as for administrative/living arrangements/travel/nutritionists/doctors, with LSU getting the rest. That revenue would still then be used to pay for other sports.

The football revenue is mostly used for the smaller sports anyway I imagine. I'm assuming men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball are all profitable. I'm assuming even softball and gymnastics at least come somewhat close to break even. So it would really be your tennis, golf, track & field, cross country and volleyball programs that would still use the football revenue.

And obviously, for all of this to work, it would have to be at least every SEC and Big Ten school that contracts out their football program. Then the SEC and Big Ten schools break away from the NCAA for football and form their own football superleague, while the other sports stay as part of the NCAA (or whatever governing body they use). I think it's the only way long term to save the other sports, especially the non-revenue sports.

There's like 20 players in this situation... imagine, you get told to shove off because of your work load... now the governing body that you played under comes in after and says, everyone else (except you) gets another year to improve their status from here on out with an extra year of work...

How is that fair to the few players that it impacts?

It's a messed up situation all around... I personally don't like it, but i understand the rationale behind the decision

This can of worms was opened during covid, and the NCAA having zero backbone to enforce their own regulations... if you want to blame anybody, blame the NCAA... they allowed the courts and public opinion to dictate this new hot garbage... Do Mahomes and Kelce have any eligibility left? I got $100 for them if they do

Thankfully this should only happen this year... i'm not a win at all costs fan, and this is not good for the sport of college football... i hope this is a one a done situation, but judges are easily bought, and rulings are easily out maneuvered these days

Actually they can be required to join. Again, I worked in Florida in a position for several years where my position was part of a union. I was not given an option, I was required to join. The only thing "right to work" means is the union can not force you to pay union dues.

When I took that job, the union representative met with me and informed me of the union and their contact information. They advised I was required to in the union for this position, and were subject to all aspects of the union CBA, but that I did not have to pay union dues. I was then given the documentation where I accepted having union dues deducted from my paycheck each week or not. Obviously, as I said earlier, I declined that. Due to that, while I was part of the union, I had no voting rights.

But again, for that position I was in a union and subject to it's CBA. The only thing "right to work" does is that those unions can not force you to pay union dues.

And understand, this was not some small po-dunk Company in Florida. I'm not going to say the name of the Company, but it's one you would be familiar with and it's one of the largest employers in Florida. So yeah I think I know the law regarding that decently well.

NCAA ruled that 2022 freshman could have a 5th year of eligibility. So players who entered the draft after 4 years sued to come back to college ball for another year and got a ruling in favor
