So it’s not that bad? You think Alex Bregman is worth being paid the same AAV as Aaron Judge?

He performs better in the playoffs at least

Glad Boston overpayed for him especially if he is in the wrong side of 30 and his career is on the downside. Could be his last contact if he sucks bad enough in Boston.

Should have taken the guaranteed years Bregman

On the surface this seems like a good signing for Boston. They are a better team with Bregman even if they overpaid a bit. The signing solidifies their infield and not needing to rely on one of their top prospects with the pressure to perform.

It's, at the very least, adding a good bat, solid defense, and another professional to a team with a lot of young talent. I'm completely fine with it.

A bit? Quite the understatement. I know Boston has the money to throw around, though.

I legit don't understand this deal. Extreme overpay. Even if he's worth 40 mil this year, he opts out. You also have Kristian Campbell ready to play.

Makes no sense to me.

I’d take 3/120 over 6/170 too… UNLESS I was in the wrong side of 30 and declining. Then it would be a tougher decision.

Something that I also wonder for Bregman when deciding between the Red Sox and Tigers is Comerica park having a canyon in left field compared to the green monster. If the deals are comparable stuff like that ends up mattering a bit.

That was kind of my thinking on this. Based on watching him the last couple of years I don't see a drastic increase in his profile so he likely doesn't opt out. So you have money tied up in him with these stud prospects about to graduate where you could use that money for pitching to supplement them?

Just weird, and if they plan on moving him to 2nd base they'll have one of the worst defensive infields in baseball with Devers and Casas at the corners with old broken Story at short.

Park factors and Cora may elevate his game and he could go back to being an on base machine, but him hitting between two of the best left handed hitters in baseball in a walk year and posting the numbers he did last year will just be imprinted in my brain. Plus cold weather and the pitching in that division is pretty damn great across the board.

Hated to see him leave but can’t blame him for getting paid.

so based on time value of money its a $30mil/year deal.

Breggy wanted the $40mil/year headline

Are y’all chipping in for your teams salaries? Why the hell would a fan care about “overpaying” in a sport with no salary cap?

Just an easy way to see fans with sour grape

I’m no astros fan, but do you think your team doesn’t cheat? Every team cheats.

trash can or not, he sees the zone as well as anyone. Even if dips in power, he'll do well plunking singles off of the monster

people are acting like he is 90. He is 31 and just posted a 4 war. This deal is only 3 years. As far as baseball contracts go, this is a decent one for the red sox.

As a Braves fan myself, yeah it would be a terrible overpay for the Braves because we operate on a budget. The Red Sox much less so. They can overpay like this on a short term deal and not be affected too much.
