... But couldn't because he couldn't afford it.
In what was a pretty soul-revealing interview this morning on the Dan Patrick Show, the 14-tear NFL veteran claimed that he did not enjoy professional football at all, stating that all he really wanted to do was live on a farm and become a cattle rancher.
He said his entire goal was simply to find a way to make $50,000 per year after football, because that's what he figured he needed to farm.
He called his dad after 8 years and 4 SB wins and said he was going to retire, but when they talked, he realized he had to keep playing because he owed on farm equipment loans and was not making enough per year to survive without football. He said the most he ever made in a seson was around $300,000.
He played another six years in the league, strictly for the money, saying pro football was nothing but a business that beat him up and made him miserable.
"People get mad when I say this but it was easy to walk away [from football]," said Bradshaw during the interview.
The former Pittsburgh QB also noted that winning the titles was great but there was little to no enjoyment due to the extreme pressure it put on him and the team.
"As soon as you win one, all you can think about is, now we have to do it again next year," he said.
The Shreveport, La., native also revealed that he had teamed with a production crew of Hal Needham, Robert Evans, and Johnny Carson Productions to shoot a pilot series called "Stockers" in 1981 for NBC that, haf it been picked up, he would have easily retired from football.
Bradshaw also elaborated on how he uses his humor and self-deprecating antics overcome negativity and issues in life.

That's exactly what it is, Terry.

So the starting QB at Louisiana Tech wanted to be a duck hunter and the backup wanted to be a cattle rancher

Because players today can play 1 contract and never have to lift another finger in their lives.

Which is a more glamorous career to the average Joe, QB or insurance salesman? Use that smoothbrain of yours to think about it.

I'm casually acquainted with a career special teamer who played something like 18 or 19 years. He wanted to retire long before that but got scammed by a shady investment advisor along with a lot of others athletes and had to keep playing.

Phil Robertson, the Duck Dynasty guy, who played with Bradshaw at LA Tech said that Terry told him the exact same thing years ago and that he was jealous of Phil for chasing his dream of building duck calls and duck hunting. Now Phil lived in poverty for most of his life so I am not sure I believe that, but if you ask Phil, Terry was never in love with playing in the NFL.

These stories shed a light on the fact that it’s not all unicorns and rainbows for these guys. It brings a human element.
Theory B: To piss you off.
Either way, mission accomplished.

On one hand bummer because I see the contracts handed out.
On the other, dude it was 300k at a time where the average income was probably in the low 30s.

It's a story because of the outlash by neckbeard having, oversized jersey wearing jackasses that want to criticize a human being for doing what's best for themselves.
The average person feels like anyone that makes more that them owes it to them to be 100% happy and they act like a bunch of know it all pussies when they find out they're miserable.

A lot of guys aren't doing it for love of the game. It's a job they happen to be suited for and are well paid for. Once you get past high school it turns into a grind. One of my best friends played a couple of years of college ball at a mid major and he has told me more than once that he hated every minute of it.

It's well known he hated Chuck Noll.

Average salary in 1978 was $10.5k. Cost of living was much less, then, too. Bradshaw made 30x the average.
Now? Most QB’s make around $20M, compare to an average salary of $60k; that’s more than 300x the average.

Like I said, I feel for the guy in a vacuum of football contracts, but definitely don't feel bad for him against society.

That’s because people will always find something to be mad. Props to original TB12 for getting real.

Guys like Brady and Brees have a “sickness”. Not necessarily a bad thing, but their competitive nature to contanstly want more drives them to keep playing instead of relaxing and enjoying other things
