There’s some type of bias against Kobe here. Kobe was a better basketball player than Bird, magic and a bunch of other dudes that are routinely rated ahead of him.
Lebron, Jordan and a few of the dominant big men were better than Kobe; that’s it.

Not common, but hardly EXTREMELY rare.
Neil Bonnet was killed in an almost identical wreck to Earnhardt's during a practice.
Search youtube for Tony Roper, Adam Petty, Kenny Irwin, JD McDuffie, etc, etc.

Huge Clemente fan here. Easily the best arm I ever saw.
He was probably 2-3 seasons from retiring. He was still in great shape the year he died.

i mean, i guess it’s not as crazy as I made it sound but he’s definitely top 10 for me. it’s just hard to compare players at different positions and also time periods in which they played. also i think Kobe was a better all around player than magic. only thing magic had on Kobe was obviously passing ability

I agree mostly. If he wanted to do more to become an all time great Harden would both have to play exceptionally in a lot of playoff series and have to be more consistent on defense when it mattered.
I also hate his game abusing the tendency of refs to bail out star players but that's more of an aesthetic dislike than a fair criticism.

I find it interesting how people are still comparing Kobe to other players less than 24 hours after his untimely death. I thought his passing would put an end to these stupid ranking lists and fan wars for good. Who gives a frick if Kobe is a top 5 or top 10 or top 15 player of all-time? He should just simply be remembered as one of all-time greats who inspired millions and played a significant role in growing the game worldwide.

There's a lot of factors that go into how "big" a death is in the sports world.
How big of a name was that person in their particular sport?
How big of celebrity/name was that person outside of their sport and to the general public/world?
How untimely or shocking was their death?
