Akili Smith was drafted 3rd overall.

Let's not forget they passed up the Ricky Williams deal to take him.

Career NFL statistics
Pass attempts: 461
Pass completions: 215
Percentage: 46.6
TD–INT: 5–13
Passing yards: 2,212
QB Rating: 52.8

Jamarcus Russell had a much better career.

He's a huge bust. I think Leaf is a bigger bust. But this was pretty shitty. I still wish he could have made it.

But frick that shite.

Jamarcus just from the size of his contract and he was awful.
2. Akili Smith
3. Ryan leaf
4. Christian Ponder
5. RG3

Dan McGwire never gets mentioned from 1st round pick to nothing very quickly.

Kelly Stoufer for the Cardinals, but concussions derailed what he had going.

Leaf.

You have to remember to put it in context. There were some who thought he should go over Manning.

Great answer, very true. Imagine if he had gone first, and was picked in front of one of the most successful qbs ever.

Russel was no doubt a huge bust, but he was drafted by the raiders, who have had some questionable 1st round picks before and after Russell.
