Are you kidding me? The NFL is as bland a brand as there is. It’s corporate nothingness. The NFL sucks compared to college football.

As far as the actual on field product goes, the NFL blows college football away (as it should) and it isn't close. What separated college football from the NFL was all about stuff off the field. Traditions, rivalries, pageantry, homecoming, and all of the other stuff that college football is throwing away and moving on from for some reason.

College football will hemorrhage viewers in the future if they continue to go away from what made it so popular among its fanbase to begin with.

I disagree completely. I get that way of thinking because change is hard for people to accept, but the 12 team playoff is going to expand the interest of college football fans across the country ten fold. In the current 4 team playoff, by the end of every college football season, there is only 2-4 fan bases that are still engaged...now with a 12 team playoff, there could be anywhere from 12-20 fan bases that are still intently engaged by still having a chance at the playoff. I can't wait for this to be proven true by the ratings for the sport. College football is getting ready to enter its greatest era EVER!!

More fanbases in general are going to stop watching altogether. I think college football will start losing the diehards because of all of the radical changes, and they think they can get enough casual viewership in the Northeast to make up for it. I don't. Nothing will make that region of the country care about college football.

I'm sure the ratings for a new superleague would be great for a year or two until the newness wears off, and then college football fans will want their rivalry games back that are being taken away. The ratings for the AAF fell off a cliff after their first week because the novelty wore off.

I would MUCH rather see Georgia play Georgia Tech and South Carolina every year than Penn State and Texas, for example. No history there. No rivalry. It would be just another date on the calendar.

The ratings will be great but I don't think that proves the sport is better. TV execs don't care about that, nor should they, but higher ratings doesn't mean a better product. It just means casual sports fans would rather watch Ohio St./Oregon than Ohio St./Purdue.

A lot of people on this site are diehards who tailgate, attend, travel, etc. This new era won't be better for them.

There are only 3-4 TV spots per network on Saturday.
For college fans.
11am - usually trash games, but you tune in to the most interesting game before you leave to tailgate.
3 pm - can only have 1 prime matchup and conferences usually schedule to have at least 1 decent matchup. Usually not much else on.
7 pm - night games, maybe 2-3 really great matchups all year per conference.

The problem is... where do you put all of these awesome games with conference realignment?
11am? More 7pm games?
The 3 pm games were already the best matchup of the week.
Trying to steal viewers from the other networks because your games are now - more better?

Should have left the conferences alone and let them battle it out in 12-team playoff.
It keeps traditions alive, forgives losses against other P5 teams... so you get more of those, keeps a competitive balance, and allows Cinderella stories.

They all just got too greedy.

Better match ups every single weekend alone is a better product

How much longer after superleague creation will all of these matchups be "better"?

Because someone has to be the basement dweller. Will it be a "better" matchup when 3-6 Penn State and 4-5 USC square off just because those two schools have large brands?

Every game cannot be marquee. Records matter, timing matters. Just look at the nfl that has 10x the fans. Unless it’s prime time cowboys or KC/Buffalo who are both 5-0 the ratings are pretty static.

I understand. I’m not saying this model will work, just that’s what they’re hurdling towards.

Regarding records, we’re all kind of brainwashed that a title winner can only have 1 or 0 losses. No other sports operates like that. Better get used to having a 3-4 at minimum loss champions in this new CFB.

No but it can be a better matchup if there’s more talent on the field
