So who gets the "A" game when you have B10 on Fox, then B10 on CBS, then B10 on NBC?

Fox gets first dibs, then NBC will get 2nd (if Notre Dame isn't playing in primetime), and then CBS.

So basically Gary is gonna be calling a shite ton of Rutgers vs Illinois games.

Not true. The networks will alternate having the "A" game, and basically will have a draft before the season. So the "A" game might be at 11 CT one week, 2:30 another week, prime time one week, etc.

AP story on Big Ten contracts

USC, Michigan, Ohio St, Penn st.... There will be plenty of marketable games to fill 3 national broadcasts each week.

rivalry like a hammer and nail, from 1956 until present, West Virginia has beaten Penn State twice. Joe Paterno went 28 years consecutive years without a loss to WV

I loved CBS’s production value (except the commercial length), but that was the most one-sided deal in broadcasting. CBS was getting one of the biggest matchups of each week for relatively nothing. The new SEC deal with ESPN/ABC is ridiculously more lucrative.

Now, credit the Big 10. They also signed a massive deal…predicated in part on capturing the L.A. market.

We’ll get used to the big SEC game on ABC just like we did with the big SEC game being on CBS. The good news for LSU fans is this may mean far fewer 2:30 big games

SEC on ESPN

Forget about watching the first 30 minutes of LSU games, the 4pm Florida-MSU matchup will be midway through the 4th Quarter as the LSU game is kicking off.

One - yes
Two - probably
Three - maybe

If USC, Michigan, Ohio St, Penn St., are playing other, sure. If it is at Wisconsin, or Sparty - cool.

However, the rest of the big ten does nothing for the average viewer now.

Three games can be accomplished with some creative scheduling, but I could see a week or two where three marketable games may not happen.

There are a lot of college football recruits who watch most of their football with rabbit ears. The B10 having 3 over the air networks vs 1 for the SEC is going to be an advantage for them. An even bigger concern is that the majority of college recruits watch more NFL than they do college. And what 3 over the air networks show nearly all of the NFL games? NBC, FOX, and CBS. And what games will they be promoting for the following Saturday? Big Ten. Over time, subconsciously, the same channels showing NFL and college games start to form a mental connection that B10 schools are the path to the NFL whether true or not. The B10 will feel like the prime destination because the prime channels show their games and the NFL games.

Hell just look at the opening Saturday this coming season. There is not a single nationally marketable game on the entire day in all of college football. The networks are going to start demanding contraction of the major conferences and more conference games if we expect them to continue paying more and more for rights with a less marketable product.

Also agree that this is dumb when I think of college football I think of the SEC on CBS

So think about what a great deal that is for the Big Ten. They get prime national exposure on a Big 4 network every week for their mid tier games. Meanwhile the SEC gets ABC for our best game, ESPN for those still willing to pay for it, and a bunch of mid tier games shoved into regional SEC Network broadcasts. It won’t be that much different than what we already have, but the Big Ten is getting a major exposure boost.

They could be on ten networks and it won’t make their dudes any faster

The SEC tv contract puts SEC games only on ABC/ESPN and most games will have to be watched on cable or streaming. The B1G will have three games--their top three games on free over the air tv and get more money for their games. I hope there are at least two SEC games on ABC on free tv most weekends.

Which makes our deal all the more frustrating. We have double the number of top tier teams with national appeal.

Meh I don’t think SEC teams really have national appeal… people worry about the rest of the country not caring if the SEC keeps dominating like they are

Big Ten has USC, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, with some lesser-interest in Wisconsin and Michigan State.

SEC has Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas, with some lesser-interest in Oklahoma, Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee.

A couple more teams that can draw interest in the SEC for sure. But, most folks around the country care as much about Texas A&M or South Carolina as they do Indiana or Iowa.

The best football has been played in the SEC for most of the last 15 years, all while only having one game each week on “rabbit ears.” Recruits want to play in the SEC where the facilities are the best, the competition is the best, the NIL opportunities are the best, and it’s the best way to get to the NFL. Doubtful that changes unless Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Auburn and Oklahoma all crater at the same time.

Just wait till we have two games a year on ESPN+ instead of just one.
