Ask the Vegas experts who would have been favored in a USC Florida matchup after the bowls and it was USC. Those peoples opinions are what matter in who is best. Not Joe blow who really does not know shite.

points spreads are not necessarily an indicator of who they think is better, but rather, who they think the bettors will favor and what number they can get away with.

wrong. you're exact quote was "BTW i like how SEC fans seem to forget that the following year UM beat florida"

the year in question was 2003.

you can go back one page and read it if you want. who needs to read more now?

The bettors are going to favor the better team considering a neutral site. It is only the sharp bettors they are considering, overall public does move the line, but not to the degree as certain bettors.

Best programs of the past 5 years

All of these articles are for the lame believers of what is in black and white on paper....

The methodology is stupid, I grant you. but it IS objective. Objective, yet arbitrary, standards don't become subjective by virtue of being stupid. The formula is known before the season starts. You might like it, I know I don't, but there is no room for argument -- what is your rank? Is it X or Y? There is no subjectivity to the fact you received X many votes in the poll. now, the poll itself is subjective, but that's actually not the same thing.

You either are #2 or #3. no debate. It is objective fact. How you became #2 or 3 is subjective, but that's not the criteria.

As for this...
quote:

They shoudl matter little, since they are not won on the field. Nobody can argue that a 1 loss UF team was better than a 1 loss USC team, a 1 loss Texas team, or even an undefeated Utah team. It is ridiculous.

Did you win the title? no. It's not a matter of the subjective truth of "who is better?" That's an endless an unwinnable argument that will bore the living hell out of me. Did you win the title is an objective truth? Go check the trophy case.

Do I hate the BCS system? Yes. do I want it changed? certainly. But to argue that NOT winning the title but believing in your heart of hearts you were better has the same value as winning the trophy is plianly not true.

Titles matter. Pennants fly forever. Crystal footballs go in the display case. No LSU fan brags that we were considered the best team in 2006 at the end of the year. We brag that we won the title in 2007. Hardware. I'll take objective truth over your subective belief. Wanna change the system? I'm with ya. Think they could do a better job? 100% agree. But that isn't the system we have now.

Titles matter more than anything else. Ask 1985 Georgetown basketball.

they will favor the team they think is better, this is of course subjective, see Super Bowl XLII.

true, but the sharps are more about value and not Team A is better. If USC played UF on a neutral site and the line opened at Pk, the sharps may pounce on USC. If it was USC -7', they would likely pounce on Florida.

You can say the whole thing is objecitve but each method that composes the formula is subjective. Like gymnastics, technically the winner is decided objectively, whoever has the best scores wins. The scoring method however is very subjective, same with boxing.

Just as I do not accept that jaun Diaz was a better fighter than Paulie Malignaggi because the crooked judges said so, I do not accept that Florida was better than USC.

Many people are disagreeing, but are offering nothing as an alternate formula. It is this type of thinking that is the bane of our nation, and I am talking well beyond College football here.

The least credible piece about the scoring is the fact that even if UF wins the title this year, they may still trail USC and UT. 3 titles in 5 years and they trail to two teams with only one title among them? Very clearly absurd.

USC must be #1 or you wouldn't have put it up there.

A monkey can figure out that USC has been the top program over the past 5 season that is obvious to anyone with a brain. The rest of the list was interesting though, with Georgia being above LSU.

Penn St. was severly underrated last season. Those guys will do as much or more in the NFL than the OU, Texas, or UF guys from last season.
