There you go, admit to all the underhanded recruiting and “scholarships” given to athletes. Admit that the other school has nearly three times the enrollment, but when it comes down to it, blame your own coaches. Piss off.

Yes, I think Catholic and Rummel would have risen to prominence with our without the split. Weiner was a great coach but Fertitta is realizing Catholic’s full potential.

Instead of this split nonsense, why don’t they just take all these football factories and throw them in a 6A power conference. They can afford the statewide travel, it eliminates the split and they can do their thing while competing in their own classification. You still redistrict every 2 years if a program falls off.
This would require them to admit to all the bs things they do to gain an advantage. I haven’t seen them willing to do that yet.

So, who WAS “on the radar in 2013”? Whoever it was, they created an edge for themselves. Can’t get parity without a draft and salary cap. Even then... Patriots, Steelers, etc.
Completely unfeasible for high school sports, but people don’t really want parity or “fairness”. They want the rules changed so that their advantages are considered “fair” and within the rules... better facilities, coaches, talent pool.

That’s definitely part of it but the school also sells itself. Great academics and facilities and they play in the highest classification, plus they will probably finish in the top 50 nationally.

You think publics aren't recruiting?
Posted on 12/29/20 at 11:55 am to bma28
Everyone knows LCA is barely anything more than a school where athletics is by far its main mission.
The academic side is a joke.

What I don’t like about the split is that it’s created a perception that Div I teams are better than the rest of 5A without it being settled on the field every year. We all put 11 kids on a 100 yard long field.
Posted on 12/29/20 at 12:08 pm to chalmetteowl
This has never been a 5A/Div I issue, imo. 5A publics have the enrollment and resources to continue to compete (yeah, that word again). The issue is teams like JC and Evangel being pushed down to 2A and 1A where those publics don’t have the enrollment or resources to compete with schools that basically only exist because of athletics. You named a once in a blue moon instance yesterday, but that’s just what it is, once in a blue moon.

Catholic had one black player play on defense
They had 3 black players on offense. Sorry they are better than your team. And "recruit", yeh catholic recruits. Kids with parents that care about them send them there so they dont have to go to the god awful public schools they are zoned for. If the public schools would make their schools worth a flying frick, they wouldnt have to complain about "recruiting"
One thing i promise, the catholic church cares more about money than football. Nobody is going to Catholic for free like the public school whiners think
ETA: kids that go “for free” work their asses off in the summer to pay for it. And this includes kids that aren’t athletic enough to tie their shoes

Does it still drive you nuts or have you just come to accept kids being paid or have full scholarships to play at local private high schools? Schools going from not even being on the radar in 2013 to winning 4 straight Football State Championships.
Is it about developing homegrown kids or buying talent from all around the state or even neighboring states?
I couldn't imagine being that concerned about high school football. I also have no problem with private schools giving inner-city kids opportunities for better educations and a better chance to get into college even if sports don't pan out. My high school in Memphis, TN, started doing this a couple years after I left (I graduated in 2003). It obviously made our football team better; however, the best bi-product was seeing under-privileged kids who didn't end up getting football scholarships still got to go to college, some even to really great colleges. Based on where they were zoned and the family lives they had, their chances were slim to none without the opportunities our school, and those like us, gave them. I can see how people may think it's unfair from a competitive standpoint, but at the end of the day, this is about high school kids and giving them opportunities to get an education.
Also, our private schools play in a different division than public schools, so the state titles teams are playing for are level playing fields with their competition. Obviously, some high schools recruit more than others, but it is what it is. No different than the haves and have nots in college.

Tbh I find it hard to care what happens in the world of high school sports
Posted on 12/29/20 at 12:53 pm to BayouBengal23
It's easier for public schools to cheat, which is why they do so at a greater rate than private schools.
The entire split was based on jealousy and small-penis syndrome.

This was the reason for the split. It’s not fair when a public school has to wait for great talent to grow up in their zone then a private school can hand pick picks anytime they want.

The charter school loophole is really a competitive environment where schools compete for students and funding, so it makes sense to have the best teams possible.
