Phil Jackson

I find it interesting that many of the same people that acknowledge Jackson’s greatness in getting the best basketball player of all time to reach his full potential in a far less team oriented sport than they are to give Belichick the credit he deserves in making Brady into what he became.

Jordan, more of a GOAT than Brady imo, couldn’t get over the hump in his first five years until Jackson came in and taught the organization and yes even MJ how to become champions.

Belichick was the architect of everything that happened in New England, and Brady is not in the GOAT conversation without his early influence.

Now obviously Belichick probably doesn’t win six without Brady as well, but I definitely think he could have won a couple with Bledsoe or many other QBs once his program was in place.

Winning a championship in college is much more difficult. For most of Saban's career, his team had to be one of the top 2 teams to make the championship game (top 4 since 2014). That's out of 133 teams. Lose 1 game and you probably don't make the playoff. Lose 2 and you are out. And that is playing 8 or 9 games against SEC teams. In the NFL, 14 out of 32 teams make the playoffs. 7-loss teams make the playoff regularly. All you need to do is put a 3 game in streak together and you are holding the Lombardi Trophy.

Pete Carroll honestly. 2 National Titles, played for 3...1 Super Bowl, played for 2. He did it at both levels, the likes only Jimmy Johnson knows.

Not a question, Belichick. It's ALWAYS harder to win in the NFL than college. For Exhibit A just look at how Saban flamed out in the league.

You could make an argument for either and you'd have some valid points.

But they are just different games with different challenges. Both were among the best to ever do it.

What a stupid debate. Saban couldn’t hack it at the highest level. Without 90 first rounders every year, he’s average at best. 15-17 says hi

So tell me Belichiks record for his first two years as an NFL head coach...

Nevermind it was 13-19.

So your point is moot.

Is this the thread where we say Joe Gibbs is the GOAT?

Saban had one of the worst squads in all of CFB this year and almost won it all. BB hasn't done shite without TB.

Belichick winning the first 3 super bowls is more impressive than anything Saban did

Since 2000 there have been 24 National Championship games and 23 Super Bowls.
Belichick, Carroll, and Saban were the coaches in 22 of those games.

Saban, he had to go out and get a new quarterback every two or three years no matter how much success he had with the last one. Belichek never had to worry about players graduating. (insert drum roll for inevitable one liners to follow here)

Nope. You may have to go 9-8 in the regular season like the Bucs or the Packers did this year to get into that position but I guess you missed that part.

Would Saban have seven championships without Alabama boosters?

Bellichick, the NFL is infinitely harder to win in than CFB at a blue blood. The “muh but Brady” arguments are of course stupid because apply that to Saban having his pick of elite 5* players at every position, every season and the fact that none of his competition got to keep their best QBs either. If Saban were able to do what Bill did in the NFL he would’ve stayed in the NFL but he couldn’t.

I disagree. A CFB national title (along with an NBA title) is arguably the hardest title to win in American sports. You can't Cinderella your way to it; you have to be a truly elite team. At the majority of schools, it requires a once-a-century team to be good enough to win a title. That's why for those type teams that squander the opportunity like 1998 Kansas State, 2007 West Virginia, 2011 Oklahoma State, etc., their losses are consistently considered the most devastating in the sports history; the likelihood of those schools being in that position again in our lifetimes is almost zero.

Same goes for the NBA. The teams with elite players win, and it's infinitely harder for a small market to attract elite players in free agency. You have to strike gold in the draft and build the team around your stars effectively after that. Cinderella runs, particularly since 1980, don't happen like in the NFL/MLB/NHL. That's why the 2002 Kings loss was so devastating; a small market like Sacramento is only elite once a generation, and it was one of few deep playoff series in NBA history where the better team actually lost.

Just a reminder for all you dumbasses that think having a good qb makes it so easy in the nfl to win a Super Bowl

Or a reminder of just how good Tom Brady was.
