Parcells might not have the overall great coaching numbers compared to Belichick but when you look at what he's done with his QBs, it's pretty impressive.

NY Giants
-Parcells won 2 SBs with Phil Simms and Jeff Hostetler (neither in Hall of Fame)

NE Patriots
-took over a 2-14 team, went 10-6 in two years making the playoffs
-next year took the team to SB with Drew Bledsoe, losing to GB Packers

NY Jets
-took over 1-15 Jets, went 9-7 next year
-went 12-4 the year after(franchise best) with Vinny Testaverde, losing to Denver in AFCCG the eventual SB winner

Dallas Cowboys
-Took over 5-11 team, went 10-6 in 1st year making the playoffs with Quincy Carter at QB
-Also signed unknown Tony Romo and made the playoffs with him in 2006

Miami Dolphins VP of Ops
-took over 1-15 team, went 11-5 the next year with Chad Pennington

Joe Gibbs

Won 3 Super Bowls with 3 Different Quarterbacks- none of whom are in the Hall of Fame.

Joe Theismann
Doug Williams
Mark Rypien

And he also had Jay Schroeder who Gibbs took to the NFC Title game (12-4) losing to the Giants.

I watched a documentary of Parcells last season called "Deep Blue: Parcells' Final Ride" and I was struck by Parcells' incredible charisma and what a great leader of men he was. Players felt a great personal connection with him which elevated their performances. It's why he was able to be take over many different teams and improve them immensely pretty much instantaneously.

Always thought it was funny that Payton would routinely get credit for Romo's success. Yet, look at Parcells success with QBs vs what we've seen so far from Payton with anyone other than Brees.

The Lions inability over the years to win a playoff game makes me appreciate Wayne Fontes

Joe Gibbs might be the most underrated coach of all time.

He actually got something out of Dan Snyder’s Redskins and almost had them in the NFC Championship game. No one has come close since.

Also worth noting Belichick is 71. Coaches drop pretty fast once you get 70+. Can’t keep that pace forever.

He has to be one of the most accomplished American sports figures of all time with 3 Super Bowls and 5 Nascar championships.

Is he the only person to be in two sports hall of fame? (NASCAR, 2020 and NFL, 1996)

ETA: Cal Hubbard (NFL 1963, MLB 1976)

Parcells was a tremendous coach and just as good of a GM. Belichick is a good coach but a terrible GM. He was very lucky that Tom Brady turned out to be an all-time great.

That's very borderline.

College and Pro in the same sport is very common. And he didn't participate in a professional lacrosse league.

No it isn't. You asked for an example, I provided one. He was the greatest football player of all time and also the greatest lacrosse player of all time. A professional lacrosse league didn't exist when Jim played. He also lettered in basketball and track and field at Syracuse.

Gibbs helped get them back to the Playoffs in his final season with Todd Collins & Jason Campbell. He never had any luck/ stability with qbs except 4 seasons of Theismann and he went to 2 SuperBowls.

Must be nice to have 19 years of Brady under center instead of making do with the Qb's Gibbs had.
