I used to live in Florida and knew people who went to Florida State from Miami and rooted for the Hurricanes even when they played FSU. I thought that was funny!

The only non DC / LSU team I actively pull for is Illinois basketball and that's only because of John Brady and his years of shitty basketball. I wanted a team to follow in the tournament back in my middle school days and Frank Williams was playing there at the time and he was an absolute BOSS, he would launch 3's from anywhere and they had a badass nickname, the Fighting Illini. Anyway they won't be making the tourney this year either. Sucks.
Having said that, if they ever met Lsu in the tourney I would hope Lsu beats the shite out of them.

LSU first and foremost always.
Also lived in Arizona for a couple years, and went to a bunch of ASU games, so I follow and root for them. Also, I live in Houston and go to a lot of UH stuff, so I also root for them.

shite there are people on this site with MORE than 2 teams
i went to ok state for a yr, never followed the fb team (les was coaching at the time) but obviously kept up w/ the basketball team till my boys were gone around the 07-08 season. hardly pay attention at all anymore especially since they went to those orange away uniforms.
they played LSU in the maui invitational that season and there was no doubt i was going for LSU

I grew up in North Carolina. Moved to La. in high school and then went to LSU. I still like Duke basketball a lot, but LSU trumps them in everything. Since LSU usually stinks at Basketball I mostly follow Duke during basketball season, but the one time they played since moving to La., I was going for LSU.

LSU fan since a young lad but when NLU ponied up a scholly the parents made that decision for me. I liked it there and was at the time when NLU was going to the tourney in basketball and had a top 5 football team in 1AA (early 90s). Games were very fun and still a fan of ULM today. Obviously two different levels of athletics which makes it easy to be a fan of both.

Ok, I really don't get this "connection" requirement to <insert school here>.
I rooted for the Gators starting when I was 6/7 years old (when they were excellenet in the mid 90s and the only one in my family, I might add), and have stayed with them all this time. My connection to UF is essentially none (although my Dad did do some work with the university, although not a whole lot).
Now with, Michigan State (the school I currently attend), I know a good number of fans who aren't connected w/ the school but root passionately, not total assholes, and are good people, I've got no beef whatsoever.
Maybe it's me, I just don't make a huge deal out of this.

I grew up in Philadelphia, then attended Penn State, I am not a basketball fan per se but find myself pulling for any of the Philly teams ('Nova,Penn,St.Joe's,Temple,LaSalle,Drexel) in the tourney

That's funny, cause I really don't get how people root for teams they have no connection to. To me, simply being from the state or area is a connection.

I cheer for all LSU sports cause I went there. I started cheering for UNC so I could cheer against my 3 good friends who were all Duke fans. It stuck. I'm going to UT in the fall, it will take a while before i can cheer for their team.
Also i cheered for LSU in the LSU v UNC basketball game a few years ago.

Also not living in LA anymore i can watch about 20 UNC games on TV at least and maybe 1 LSU basketball game.

What is TD's view on being a fan of two different schools? Such as being a fan of Bama in football and Duke in basketball
Much akin to the old adage about playing two quarterbacks.
If you're playing two quarterbacks, you don't have a quarterback.

That's cool, i don't mean it as a judgement, but for me, if I'm not connected, it ddid stick. I was a Braves fan as a kid because they were on TV and I liked Dale Murphy, but after college I moved back to Houston and i started follwing the Astros. I rooted for the Braves in the WS when they were there but I didn't count myself as a Braves fans.

Oh, I know, its one of the problems of having a bad team. Me and some buds went to see LSU play UH back in Nov, just because we don't get the chance to see us much. In fact, one of things we love about A&M joining the SEC is we will have the chance to go for Basketball and baseball series up there.

Fair enough, however, I was assuming the poster I had replied to was directly referring to attendance and/or family connections to said school(s).

Are you from Fla or lived there for a while?

I grew up there for about 4-5 years, and have lived in Michigan ever since.
