From what I was told the owner wanted the name to be the "Bayou Blues" but was unaware that was the name of a town and it'd be incredibly be difficult to get things trademarked/copyrighted... he wanted something music-related and went with Zydeco instead, even though it has nothing to do w/ the region

It's completely regional to South Louisiana. They're trying to pull people from outside of BR to this, which I can't see happening unless Lafayette baws are really itching to see hockey since the Ice Gators folded.
Agreed that this has been just a wild adventure of mishandling and poor management. You could've gotten better PR from local hockey fans submitting their own personal take on what the team should do.
Generally these outside firms will do Wikipedia research instead of actively reaching into the community and figuring out what will work best.
Honestly if they can make affordable concessions and get the air conditioning working, that's a major win and a foundation. This weather is still damn hot out and I want to wear jeans without sweating.

Exactly my point. If the league was legit, it would be one thing.
We could make a pretty decent list of fly-by-night shite that didn't work in BR.
The Kingfish definitely lasted the longest because their league was the most stable
But I remember at least one (maybe 2) arena football teams, in arena soccer team, and a couple minor league baseball teams that never lasted more than 2 seasons because the leagues were so suspect.
Team names I recall: RiverBats, Bayou Beast, Blaze, Blue Marlins. I'm sure I'm missing others.

I finally got around into looking at the situation. Seems pretty messed up and poorly planned. Hopefully with some initial support thing will get better. From what I can infer from the page, it seems like all the players are staying in one house in Livingston Parish. Don’t know whose bright idea that was.
I still plan on going to give support and hopefully my money will help the organization get their head on straight.

I'll be there tonight, but frick Ticketmaster.
2 tickets for $10 ended up costing $45. Fees were more than the tickets.

The FPHL definitely doesn't have the greatest reputation, but the way the Zydeco have been managed has been laughable. Between the Select-A-Seat event, to the inability to get digital tickets instead of paper ones through Ticketmaster, from start to finish it has been a shitshow.
Granted, I'll have my season tickets as long as they're here and I'll be at as many games as I can go to, but this has been a headache from the start.
Still excited for tonight though.

Arena looks way better than it did for the exhibition games. Team is very bad at passing and offense. Goalie is solid. Crowd is meh in size.
Definitely wanting one of those season ticketholder jerseys.

The PA announcer is garbage.

Nothing but fake fighting to get everyone interested
Do they really think we’re that stupid

WWE is fake fighting. Doesn’t mean it’s not fun. This is bottom-feeder minor league hockey. None of these guys have local ties. None are making it to the NHL. They’ve got to find any way to make it entertaining.

Sounded like a WWE commercial, and his commentary in game might’ve been even worse.
Parker Moskal didn’t suit up tonight (seemingly due to his front office duties), so I hope he plays very soon. Dude was very personable with my young kids and was more than open to take pictures and play with them at different times throughout the night.

Legit question, was the PA announcer high off his arse or has he just never watched hockey before?

I woke up this morning still not being able to get "BIG HIT" in a WWE voice out of my head for simple checks into the boards, so I'm going to say likely the latter.
Also, whoever came up with the foam puck idea and didn't think it was going to result in exactly what it did is nuts. At least the cow bells weren't a thing cause that could've gone bad with how much we hate those things here

Two things kept me from going:
1) Ticketmaster more than doubling the price of the ticket just for fees
2) The thought of cow bells potentially being a thing
I'll give it two more games to make sure there are no cow bells, then I'll go get tix at the box office if it saves money. frick ticketmaster.

Can you buy tickets at the box office to avoid the fees? I’m sure the line would be an hour long so pick your poison.

Hockey can absolutely work in BR, but if you're expecting it to be the quality of a Stars game or have the meaningfulness of an LSU game, then it's destined to fail. It's a great and fun sport - just get behind a local team (who GAF about the name) and enjoy.
Plus, they will hopefully start a junior program for the kids if that isn't already in the works. That's a lot of fun for kids to get started in and helps build a fanbase for the team.

My ticket was $16 at the box office, but they had some cheaper at $14

Not sure about the fees, but when I was entering the arena, there was maybe about 4 people in line at the box office
