Flew over them the other day and Ballpark In Arlington is still a great looking stadium. Id put it top 5 in baseball aesthetically.
And then they replace it with something that looks like a 747 hangar.
Why?

There is no comparison between the two from a fan enjoyment perspective.
The new ball park is far superior in every way.
Go sit in the old ballpark late July for 4 hours.
Then go sit in the new park in July for 4 hours.
The new park is a fantastic venue.

Back in 1994, they didn't know Texas summers get hot. Climate science has come a long way since then.

The old park may still be a solid MLB park right now, but the new park is so much better.

I agree, The Ball Park in Arlington was the first MLB stadium I ever went to and one of my favorites. The new stadium is a monstrosity. Leave it to the fair weather Rangers fans to say its too hot to go to a baseball game. Its a sport meant to be played outside cmon now

most people didnt want a new stadium but we all agreed we needed AC
The new stadium is fine. The area around is very nice

I loved the ballpark. Incredible stadium.
Globe Life is also incredible. They did a fantastic job, imo. The exterior is kind of funny, but I don’t think it’s that bad. I was not a fan of an indoor stadium at first. Did not like the idea of baseball inside. It’s not bad though. I also usually sit in the suites so AC wasn’t that big of a deal for me.
My one real complaint is that the ball doesn’t carry nearly as well as it did at the Ballpark. We even moved the wall in after r last year and it didn’t change anything.
I remember when i worked in the media I covered the college baseball tourny at Minute Maid and had never been there before. Was wandering around downtown and finally just gave up and asked someone where Minute Maid was. They laughed and pointed right behind me. I had thought it was just a convention center

The old ballpark was my childhood with my dad working for the Rangers when I was a kid and me going to dozens of games every year along with the other events like Rangers luncheons, Winter Carnival and all that. My dad even was able to let me have a sleepover with some friends in the apartment located in one of the corners of the stadium one night which was cool. So I was not a big fan when they announced the new stadium and still am not. I get it, it gets hot. But it wasn't really THAT bad unless you were a fatass.

I was a season ticket holder and only games I really hated were the Sunday 3 pm ones.
Ultimately though, I agree. Women also do not like it. The chick I was with at the time was always bitching and moaning. Eventually just told her to watch at home. Probably started the downfall of that relationship.

They wanted to be more like their daddy in Houston, but they failed. Looks like a barn or something.

Well, if this is a true story, you are not as smart as I thought you were.
But I suspect only parts of your story are accurate.

The ballpark wasn’t that bad on summer evenings. Most of its shaded.
However the metal bleachers in the old Arlington stadium gave new meaning to having the red arse. Back when they played more day games.

I really was oblivious. I had never seen another closed stadium that wasn’t AT&T or Reliant before this happened.

Took my kids to a 2pm game in July a few years ago and thought I was going to have a heat stroke, I paid $50 for water, hot chocolate was on sale for $1 so there was a bright side.

The Park in 2018. Red Sox were in town. Was on vacation in Dallas and decided to go. I really liked the old park.

It was actually cheaper to build a dome over the Ballpark.
They wanted a new stadium b/c the owners want to eventually backdoor the Texas Live aspect of the project into a casino.

Man I strongly disagree. It is frankly the worst stadium I’ve ever been to. The field is sunk so far down below the first row of seats there is zero chance for fan/player interaction. Access to the seats closest to home plate and the dugouts basically have you go to a basement concourse to then come up to the seats. The outfield concourse had zero to offer in terms of space to congregate and eat and drink. It’s the single most sterile environment I’ve ever experienced to watched a game. There is absolutely zero in the stadium that says “I’m in Texas right now.” Zero amenities for kids.
The AC was nice. As was the view of the beautiful old stadium as you walked into the new baseball stadium and convention center.
