The need for NOLA advocates to complain about any major event that is NOT in NOLA that year is ridiculous. News flash, not every major sporting event can be held in New Orleans every year.

You realize the Sugar Bowl attendance was an indictment of the SEC team's fans right? Florida had a crappy turn out this year. Blame their jort wearing asses. The year before Alabama and LSU completely sold out the Dome

Oh I know. I've been pleasantly surprised by some of y'all.

Didn't mean to cast a wide net of generalization.

This.

As a Native New Orleanian living in Atlanta, I can say that each city has its qualities.

Comparing the two is apples and oranges these days. Metro Atlanta has more people than the entire state of Louisiana.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Atlanta's strength, IMO, is also its weakness. No one is from here, so it's a very diverse city. The problem is that because of this, it really doesn't have much of its own identity or culture. The upside is that there is always something unique to see and do.

For events in the Ga Dome or Phillips, it's great because both are easily accessible via MARTA, which allows out of towners to get to their games, etc, without dealing with the traffic here.

So it's a good venue. No, it's not New Orleans, but that's like saying Jennifer Anniston isn't Halle Berry.

Everytime I visit Tampa, we have to drive to either clearwater or st. pete just to go to the beach.

Okay then. You've probably taken the Courtney Campbell Causeway from Tampa to Clearwater Beach. Ya know, on the Tampa side, that area with lots of water, what looks like white dirt, and the big sign that says "Ben T. Davis Beach". Well, that would be a beach.......... A shitty one, but yes a beach.

Again, there are more, and much better beaches on the Pinellas west coast, but there are beaches in Tampa, and these are a lot closer to Tampa than the north GA mountains are to Atlanta, "mountain man".

That's like saying any pile of sand next to the water is a beach. Technically, yes it is a beach. But who the frick wants to go there?

And the mountains are less than an hour from Atlanta. If 'good' beaches are 20-40 minutes from Tampa, then I say the comparison is pretty equal.

As for NOLA, I think it's a great place to host major events, just wish they had a rail line from the airport to the CBD/Quarter/Superdome area.

Atlanta has the SECCG and the Chickfila Bowl and the Kickoff Classic games.

The CFA Bowl isn't BCS obviously, but it is easily one of the best run and popular bowls in the country.

This applies more to cities like Atlanta and Dallas, whose populations EXPLODED over the last 20 years.

Bingo. Most of Atlanta's cultural faults either reside in our cookie-cutter suburbs (everything outside the Perimeter/I-285) or "the ghetto" (west/south of Downtown). There are a lot of great neighborhoods that others have listed here which have a great deal of charm.

Buckhead is a very, very cool place.

New Orleans is a better host for events, I won't dispute that. However, Atlanta isn't a bad location at all. I enjoyed my time there. The only thing I hate about Atlanta is the Falcons, and only the Falcons.
