Casey Mize is on a clear Kevin Gausman career trajectory and I don't think his bad years have been as bad as Gausman's were to start his career.
Comparing him to Mahle is unserious stuff.

Oh look, the village idiot makes his monthly appearance.
For someone who always says September and October are the only things that matter, how are you going to feel running Bryce Elder out for Game 2 of a playoff series?

And it's not even about the stats to a certain extent, it's about not giving a frick about the season. Like how can AA look at what every other NL team did and what he did and be ok with that?
2021 was supposed to be the beginning of our window... instead, directly because of the moves and lack of moves AA has made, we haven't won a playoff series since.
I understand the frustration. Part of what fricked us was -- Profar being a total dumbarse, Strider not being able to actually get on the mound, Schewellenbach not being on the mound. Austin Riley becoming 2026 Austin Riley, Acuna being constantly banged up.
So now we are in a position where AA is constantly having to mix and match parts to cover for all this bullshite. Yes, he fricked up big by signing Profar, he needs to come up with solutions. Part of the problem is these guys need to stay on the field and be available.

We’re taking the approach that we can throw about 15 different guys that are average so we’ll keep the hitters guessing
Average doesn’t win in the playoffs

He's not though
He's just dumpster diving while screaming "remember 2021" into the abyss.

Mahle is hot garbage, man. This is inexcusable.

He says he’s happy with the staff
That no writer said “what staff?” Is malpractice

If the team doesn’t pull a miracle out of their arse in 2021, how do we grade AA?

Most of this was very predictable.
A smart GM would ALWAYS assume Acuna will miss 50-60 games per season.
A smart GM wouldn't put so much hope in injured pitchers magically returning to form with no setbacks. Schwellenbach was hurt significantly worse than what was made public last year (there was some nerve damage involved with that injury) and never felt right during the offseason, and the team knew this. This isn't some inside info, this is straight out of Schwellenbach's mouth from a podcast not too long ago.
Strider looked cooked last year.
Was AA really stupid enough to just assume Riley would hit like it was 2023 again? Stevie Wonder could have watched games in 2024 and 2025 and told you that wasn't happening.
We were told all spring training that losing Profar meant we had his money to spend at the deadline, and the pussy AA just sat on it.
He had no contingency plans for the high probability of things not working out at absolute best case scenario.

He is gaslighting the frick out of everyone.
The frick does this even mean? We going to bring Riley in for an inning to spell the bullpen when we’re losing by 8 in the 5th inning of game 2 of the Wild Card series?

You really couldn’t create a more AA-doubter outcome than the one he just delivered
If he hadn't gotten lucky as hell at the 21 deadline his arse would have been fired a long time ago. He's truly been entirely worthless since the beginning of the 24 season, a true display of ineptitude and complacency.
The Padres got Ray from within their same division and only gave up their 10th and 21st best prospects according to BA (and they rank even worse on Fangraphs).
His absolute refusal to fix our starting pitching issues over the past two seasons is ridiculous.

The fact that we are still looking for replacements for Dansby and Fried tells you all you need to know about AA.

We've known about all of this coming into the deadline today, though. In fact, we've known about all of this for months now. Wishing and praying and hoping for the best is not a strategy.

You can’t fricking say this when literally every other team in your contending tier got a nominal deal done.

What I expect to happen: we make 1-2 Mahle type moves and then AA goes on the broadcast tomorrow talking about how teams weren’t willing to deal.
