Literally the best team in baseball and people are in here acting like we are the Mets.

That's how they roll in here.

The weird thing about Iglesias is that he is either incredibly awful, or he completely shuts down the other team. Half of his 30 outings were 1-2-3. Of the other half, 5 games he has given up multiple runs, 4 games he gave up a single run, and 6 games he's had baserunners but no runs.

His ERA sucks, his WHIP sucks, but he doesn't walk a bunch of guys and doesn't give up a ton of homers. And he ultimately only has 2 blown saves.

It's hard to figure out. Seems like with previous closers there was drama every night. With Iglesias half the time there is zero drama but when he decides to blow up, he fricking blows up in a big way.

We said the same thing about Will Smith and Kenley Jansen.

How about an Ohtani to the Braves silly trade scenario ---

Braves get:

Otahni - $30 mill, or what's left of it

Closer - Carlos Estevez. He's 30 years old. 21 saves 2.13 era ($6.75mill this year and next year)

Angels Get -

Ozuna - $16 mill next year
Bryce Elder

Dylan Dodd
Vaughn Grissom
Decent AA prospect

If you are Atlanta, do you make this trade?

Our playoff rotation could be:

Ohtani
Fried
Strider
Ole Uncle Charlie
And if Kyle Wright makes it back this year - GREAT. If not, we're in great position

my revisionist history memory recalls much more drama for Will and Kenley. Part of that with Kenley is that he pitched so damn slow, it made it seem like every inning was stressful even when he went 1-2-3.

2022 Kenley had 1-2-3 innings in 27 of 65 games (41.5% of games).
2021 Smith had 1-2-3 innings in 26 of 71 games (36.6% of games).

My perception seems to follow the game log stats. Iglesias pitches clean innings at a higher rate. He's also blown up at a higher rate (17% of games he's given up multiple runs). In 21, Smith only gave up multiple earned runs 4 times. I'm guessing he pitched in many more 1 run games that year resulting in a bunch of losses and blown saves. Kenley gave up more than 1 run 6 times in 22. Again, probably pitched in more close games to account for those blown saves.

You could be on to something with this particular part of the deal. This is the type of pitcher I could easily see AA targeting.

One downside is that he's walked a bunch of guys but he's not letting them score. His FIP indicates he might be getting a bit lucky this year.

Yep. And at least we'd have some type of asset after Ohtani leaves for free agency.

The other thing I like - I think it really helps our chances at winning the World Series for this year.

Yeah kind of seems like we might be buying high on him and end up with another guy with the same/similar issues our current ones have.

The #Braves today selected RHP Seth Elledge to the major league roster, placed OF Sam Hilliard on the 10-day injured list with a right heel contusion, and released LHP Danny Young from the roster.

Sounds very Richard Rodriguez-esque.

The Braves don't do rentals.
