These are guys that have always produced a lot of "soft contact" and yet are simply damn good hitters

I think of soft contact like turnovers in football. You'll get some occasional outliers like the 1983 Redskins going something like +45 turnover margin for the season, but that usually evens itself out over the long run.

With soft contact, the BABIP gods giveth and the BABIP gods taketh away. The Mets are clearly outplaying their batted ball profile to this point in the season. We'll see if it keeps up over a full season.

Theres a lot less contact made in the playoffs. You are either facing a legitimate ace or you are seeing high leverage guys from the 4th-9th inning.

Last year there were about 4.5 more strikeouts per game in the playoffs.

Obviously those guys are good hitters but is it harder to string together a bunch of base hits against guys like Treinen, Hader, Williams, Minter, etc than just hope for one mistake? I don’t know the answer but it will be an interesting watch imo.

This mets lineup isnt even that amazing.

It actually sucks, which is what makes this even more embarrassing.

Braves 4.73 runs per game
Mets 4.70 runs per game

more to baseball than home runs and striking out

Yeah, that's fair to an extent -- Guillorme is a guy who'll clearly regress at the plate a bit. He's hitting over his head

But my point was that Marte, McNeil, and Canha have always been in the bottom quartile of the league in average EV and yet are proven hitters over a large sample size

Stats need context. Do you think Marte, McNeil, and Canha are hitting above their heads because of their average EVs despite the fact that they're hitting at around their career norms? Why would you expect those guys to regress?

Yeah at least it was in a 6-1 game.

I like getting Jansen some work here. I would go position player in the 9th.

Playoffs is an interesting thought, but, honestly, I'd trust a hitter like McNeil to give a competitive AB a lot more than I'd trust a hitter like Olson (not to pick on Olson, but he's the best example of a high-EV, high-whiff guy the Braves have right now)

It'll be interesting

Nimmo going back on no doubters like he’s going to catch them all series has been pretty amusing.

Cano has been hitting a lot of balls hard. Really could have something if we can straighten out the launch angle.

Congrats on the series win.

Despite your unsavory comments we will still let you jump on the Braves bandwagon in October when the Mets are on early vacation (again). We are a hospitable bunch.

I’m thankful for this series. We’re seeing some of our weaknesses, and will hopefully make moves to strengthen them.

I didn't learn anything new from this series. Our starters just all struggled to throw strikes, and our offense did what they will do sometimes, with their approach. Over the course of the long haul, these performances won't be, and haven't been the norm.

But I know the insecure Mets fans are all up in here trying to assure us that this series proves everything in their favor. I'm willing to be patient with the team who knows how to win, vs. the team who knows how to empty the tank before the All-Star break.

What weaknesses would those be IYO?

B/c I really don't see any. We just didn't pitch up to our capabilities this series. That's all..It happens.

And LOL @ Mers fans ITT thinking this series is some kind of mandate and that the Mets have a better lineup.

I'd say the Braves have a marginally better lineup but really it ultimately depends whether you prefer a high-whiff, high-EV approach or a high-contact, high-OBP approach

But the Mets have considerably better pitching at full strength. Just gotta get and keep deGrom and Scherzer healthy somehow

It will be an interesting case study to see if a team that’s built like this can win against good pitching in a short series. You would have to think at least 1-2 guys who can really punish mistakes will need to be added. But can you just scratch, claw, slap your way on base enough to produce runs in October with guys like Nimmo and Guillorme and even Canha? It will be interesting to watch.

My guess is no.

You have to have power to be able to punish miatakes. Death by a thousand cuts doesn't work in the postseason

Think this team could use a hitter. Not necessarily a power bat at all but Duvall or Rosario need to be replaced at the deadline if their production doesn’t make a turn.
