Vegas generally knows best, but I don't see how the Phillies are 5 games worse than the Braves or 7 games worse than the Mets. I guess the logic is something has to give in-division, and Vegas seems to think Philly will be on the bad end of head to heads against us and the Mets.

Inconsistent pitching and Harper out for the first half probably plays into this.

I missed this somehow, yeah that explains it

I do think Olson could have a monster, MVP type year.

I mean that would be awesome, and I definitely don't expect him to hit .240 again, but ~.250 BA ~.330 OBP and ~35 HR is about what I expect from him going forward, because that's what he has been historically. Which is really good, mind you, just not sure if an MVP season will ever be in the cards for him.

We really, really, really need Ronald to bounceback and be the pre-injury 2021 version of himself. It almost seems like AA is counting on that to happen, which seems risky to me.

Why? He turned 25 the Sunday before XMas and you usually see in the 2nd full year
after ACL surgery the knee be completely healthy.

Show me that research.

Knee surgery recovery can be a long process for regular people who don't partake in a lot of strenuous activity for their jobs. There is no data point that I can find that says year 2 is when everything is fine again for an athlete. In quite a few cases, players coming back from ACL surgery are never quite the same for the rest of their careers.

writing was on the wall after the Jiminez and Murphy trades

With the Murphy trade, as much as I question why we weren't using what's left of our farm to fill holes, at least we got an All-Star caliber player in return.

The Jimenez trade still makes zero fricking sense.

That seems like a bargain if he’s as good as advertised.

Where does this put us relative to the tax now?

I think this would put us around $238M this year, so around $5M over.

Seems like a good deal for the Braves

1st offense is only 20%. Only reason to have been that close before and not go over is to not start the clock on the compounding. Now that we’re over, may as well say “frick it,” and really go over.

Yeah Braves will pay about $1M in taxes on Murphy’s 2023 salary assuming they can’t shed any salary.

I swear to god, we better not shed salary just to avoid $1m in lux tax

Don’t think they’ll make any big moves (not that there are many big free agents left).

But a bit comforting that they are willing to go over from a mid season trade perspective.

This Murphy trade looks a lot better now. If he's as good as advertised, then keep in mind that Realmuto's last contract (signed prior to 2021 season) was 5/$115M.

ACL surgery is about as routine as it gets these days.

20 years ago, even 15 years ago, I would agree w/you but medical science has come such a long way in just that short of time that ACL surgery is no longer the career ender that it used to be and you can make a case that in a lot of situations the knee is even stronger.

I had my meniscus scoped out at the end of February. I was good to go for football season starting in mid-August and now I am probably 90-95%. Not a lot of achiness any more and I can do all the things I did before. And I'm 41. RAJ is 25. He'll be fine.

I'm still active though, obviously not on RAJ's level but I do rely on my legs a lot whether it's through officiating, running, or just working out in general.

He'll be fine. As usual, you are making a mountain out of a molehill
