Are the Grizzlies better without Ja?

I mean they ended up with the 2-seed because of the run in the regular season they made without him. The just beat the Warriors by a million without him. Not saying trade the guy or anything like that, but this isn’t a crazy question.

Seem to be better defensively

Tyus Jones is very underrated

It’s easy to win by 40 when everything is going your way. Last game in crunch time they needed him badly. At the end of the game you need a player that can create his own shot.

Vegas doesn't think so. Let's not take 1 game anomaly and conclude that it's a trend.

No, because Ja is their go to bucket man, which is what they were missing at the end of game four after being up the entire game until the final two minutes.

Ja is a terrific player, but it's clear the Grizzlies don't really miss a beat when he's out.
Their defense is better without him, bar none. Ja is one of the most athletically gifted players in the NBA. Without a doubt. There is zero reason for him to be bad at defense. It's an effort thing at this point.

While understanding playoffs vs reg season, but I heard on the radio today that they were 20-5 without him. Not an anomaly.

What they really needed in this series was Steven Adams.

Exactly. Both teams played like dog crap until the 4th qtr when the only superstar in the court took over and scored 18pts in the 4th qtr.
Ja has played at a top 10 level all season long. Your team is not better without him.

I mean.....20-5? That's a pretty large regular season sample size....just sayin.

Was it against playoff teams or cupcakes?

You can’t replace a superstar. I say no.
But they do seem to play better defense.

In general, NOT better with Ja off the court.
Them having a major turnaround last night is more along the lines of Mike Brown being a crap coach in place of Kerr and that the Warriors are on a short rotation due to injuries and don’t really have the bigs to bang with the likes of Adams.
That’s a matchup issue and not going to be the case if they play Phoenix in the conference finals because Phoenix has the speed to make Adams a major liability.

since i don't think we did this yet, let's all laugh at how stupid the Kings are, having the longest playoff drought in the league and they go hire a retread head coach in Mike Brown who's been fired 3 times for sucking.
Have they not learned the lesson that all these other teams recently that hired retread losers, who sucked yet again, as opposed to those hiring guys that have worked their way up into earning a shot at a head coaches position like Nurse, Willie, Finch, Udoka, Jenkins, etc.

Another finalist was Mark Jackson.
Brown’s an idiot but Jackson is utterly toxic and that is why he hasn’t coached since the Warriors canned him.

The teams know a lot more about what goes on behind closed doors than fans. Didn’t people universally crap on the Jason Kidd hire too? Seems to have worked out great. As a fan you have maybe 1% of the information to make decision that the front offices do. coaches are very low on the totem pole oftentimes their teams can underperform thru little fault of their own.
Anyway, Coach brown is 9th all time in win % for coaches with over 500 games. Ahead of Nick nurse. Ahead of guys like spoelstra and lue who also coached lebron. But you can never argue that the lebron rosters that Brown coached were better than the ones that coach Lue and Spo coached. BRown has won BIG.
