With the success of QBs like Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, etc. are pocket passers in the NFL becoming obsolete?

No, because all of those guys are solid pocket passers when they need to be. That's what makes them great, they can do both.

Nope, simply because mobile QBs have a short shelf life while a pocket passer who can feel pressure can play almost forever.

Mobility is good until you get hit by a 300lb fricking freight train at an odd angle. Eventually you blow out a joint or ligament if not snap your leg in half like Thiesmann or Alex Smith.

All of these QBs are young. I would assume as they all age they will not be scrambling much at all.

We have a generation of QBs finally cycling out and the youth movement still had a group that is still mobile enough to run against the defensive monsters lining up on defense each week.

Yep, modern fans have no idea what they’re talking about in terms of mobile, running or pocket QBs. They truly believe every QB prior to the last 10 years had Tom Brady like athleticism and don’t understand it’s the rules changes that’s allowed more guys to run around freely. There were always guys who could do it but back when you could hit people QBs had to be very careful about leaving the pocket.

Burrow is definitely mobile, he does some serious damage with his legs, not in terms of aggregate rushing yards, but escapability from the pocket, extending plays, and getting clutch first downs when plays breakdown.

I once heard a radio guy call Joe Burrow "deceptively athletic."

Did he think Joe Burrow was "deceiving" the other team into believing he was a slow white boy?

Without going down the list there’s probably 4-5 QBs in the NFL that would be true dual threats. Most are pocket passers that can scramble and the ones that are true dual threat are not winning superbowls.

Why do people want so bad to make dual threat QBs in the NFL a thing.

How many SB wins do Lamar and Hurts have? Lamar hasn’t done shite in the playoffs.

Juice and modern day nutrition/medicine = genetic freaks

As if guys like LT, sapp weren't absolutely monstrosities right?

But all things considered, you need to have some degree of mobility for pocket passers. Guys are not fundamentality sound like Brees, Manning, Brady, Rivers where they could pick you apart without moving. Rodgers was that inbetween last generation to this generation where he used his legs occasionally because he rolled out so much.

Comparison:
Brees: 498 carries, 752 yards, 123 FD (24.7%)

Manning: 431 carries, 667 yards, 76 FD (17.6%)

Brady: 693 carries, 1123 yards, 232 FD (yes i know lots were kneel downs). 33.5% were rushes for 1st downs. Shockingly this was higher than ^

Rodgers: 719 carries, 3466 yards, 258 FD. 35.9% were rushes for 1st downs

Mahomes: 341 carries, 1805 yards, 121 FD. 35.5% were rushes for 1st downs

Burrow: 177 carries, 578 yards, 63 FD. 35.6% were rushes for 1st downs

Allen: 590 carries, 3320 yards, 250 FD. 42.4% were rushes for 1st downs
