Not really... get off of I40 and stay on 321 all the way up. Boone is maybe 45 minutes, max, off of interstate.
I think he's talking about the whole gas gobbling climbing a mountain part

I'm from South Louisiana. Driving over a steep molehill is a bitch to me.

Besides the temporary perception hit, I like the App State add. Georgia Southern

Georgia Southern doesnt recruit the Atlanta area as much as you probably think.

See, I actually think the perception will be that the 'Belt added a good football program, not a good FCS program. Maybe I'm naive in that regard. I just don't think people will look at it as a negative.
Georgia Southern, I really don't know a whole lot about, so I can't really comment.

Why unsure about GSU? GSU has 2x as many national titles as ASU and is the most storied FCS program in history.

I'm more-so talking about the conference perception that high school recruits will have, not fans. Before the conference realignment dust settles, and before conference superiority between the non-AQ conferences is determined on the field, recruiters from non-AQ/non-SBC schools will point out that the SBC is a FCS feeder/bottom of the barrel conference.

Is that school population?
I'm talking about recruiting. GSU gets an awful lot of players from south GA and north Florida. Afterall that's where the school is geographically located.

No offense, but I didn't know that. Good to know.
WKU was a great FCS program, and it took them a little while to compete in football.

they are moving up from the Southern Conference to the Sun Belt.
you think they are going to get slaughtered now or something?
its a step up but not that big a step.

May come as a little shock, but of the 9 current Sun Belt members who were former FCS/I-AA teams, they combine to have 2 FCS/I-AA football national titles.
Appalachian State has 3
Georgia Southern has 6
So those 2 teams are bringing in a combined 9 football national titles to the Sun Belt where the other 9 teams have a total of just 2. It's 2 great storied programs. Much better than any of the other ones that moved up.

It's way more of a step up from a money/exposure standpoint than even competition. I'd go bet if you pitted the Sun Belt up against the best FCS conferences normally (SoCon, CAA, Big Sky, etc) the results would be pretty even, likely slightly in favor of the Sun Belt due to depth (85 vs. 63 scholarship players allowed). A lot of folks dont realize the entire Sun Belt sans ULL is former FCS teams that all recently moved up in the last 20 years. 5 of the 9 in the last decade.
Where GSU/ASU will see the biggest jump up in competition is instead of playing 1 BCS conference team OOC now they will see more like 3 a year.

I'm just pickin'. Our athletic director, Scott Farmer, is a GSU alum. A lot of people seem to believe he's loving the idea of being in the same conference of GSU and Troy (where he got his first gigs in AD offices).
