If I called in sick as much as Zion, I'd get fired...

Here we are a few yrs later and the lakers have won a title, and the pels are dead last in the west, zion weighs 400lbs and not playing, all the other picks they have made are garbage. This is EXACTLY why you dont blow your wad in the draft hopefuls, and invest in actual proven players.

Are you saying they should’ve traded for Kyle Kuzma instead of the Zion draft pick

Well AD wanted out. We weren’t winning a championship ship with him the next year anyway.

We got Ingram And I think we still have most of those picks.

And the Lakers suck and hopefully Lebron bails on them to co time I to chase rings.

FWIW I’m not a Pelicans fan but used to have a favorable opinion of AD. I’ve rooted for and against Lebron’s teams in past.

When LeBron joined the Lakers, I thought it took some guts in the loaded West and started to pull for them. When he and agent orchestrated the AD trade, I became very anti-Lakers again.

The narrative that I remember was both Lakers & Pelicans fans being satisfied but neither feeling like they fleeced the other.

I have watched or followed very little NBA for a good while now, but even I know that having a boat-load of 2nd round draft picks is like having a lot of this:

They won a championship… it’s pretty clear that they won the trade.

Pretty dumb take. It was obvious the Lakers would "win" the trade in the short term, considering they got an elite player in his prime to pair with LeBron.

Brandon Ingram is an all-star caliber player and the Pelicans still have 2-3 unprotected Lakers 1st rounders over the next 4 years. It's still objectively a great trade for the Pelicans, considering AD was forcing his way out and the Pelicans had little leverage.

You can valuate a trade until picks are used. The lakers could have some shite go completely sideways and pels luck into a generational talent with their pick that they miraculously don't frick up and they win 3 titles. Pels win the trade by a country mile at that point.

They won the trade until Zion realized he was going to have to play and live in the shithole that is New Orleans. Then he followed Anthony Davis’ blueprint. Zion has almost as many phantom injuries as Davis and figured the weight stuff could be insurance.

Of course, no one could have ever seen that coming considering he turned down six figures from Kansas to play at Duke. I’m sure he and his family got no under-the-table money from Duke whatsoever in the same way Cam Newton got nothing from Auburn after turning down $180K from Mississippi State.

The Pelicans should be moved to Seattle or elsewhere. New Orleans is not a basketball city.

99% of franchises would trade everything for one championship.

By your own made up 99% number, the Lakers would absolutely be the 1%

The Lakers got their title, so they certainly can call the trade a win. We're also potentially seeing the Lakers Lebron run being done as a title team, and they're staring down a looooooong road before getting back to contention.

Yep

No needle moving stars out there for the foreseeable future and we know AD isn’t a #1 on a title team

You can’t look at the trade as what did both teams get.
It was never equal. AD wanted to go to LA and was headed there anyway. Pels were in a no win situation. Lakers were in a no lose one.
You could have not traded for him, kept BI and drafted Zion and then still got AD when he became a free agent. You might have had to finagle some trades to make the money work.

That said the Pels did get a haul of picks that haven’t even come up yet.

All in all for a organization that usually just rolls over they didn’t do bad and it’s possible they draft a cpaul or aDavis again. Who knows.

Bron could always turn it on in the postseason, wouldn't be THAT surprising.

But there are some alarming stats to be concerned with.

Like you said, it's painfully obvious AD ain't a #1. If you're paying Bron $40mil and he's no longer a bonafide #1, and you also have no draft picks to speak of...that's not good.
