Anyone remember when the pelicans thought they hit the jackpot in AD trade?

"Omg we trade raped lakers, we got all these picks, we are getting zion and will be loaded with picks for years. The lakers are doomed and we will be a top team for years to come"

Here we are a few yrs later and the lakers have won a title, and the pels are dead last in the west, zion weighs 400lbs and not playing, all the other picks they have made are garbage. This is EXACTLY why you dont blow your wad in the draft hopefuls, and invest in actual proven players.

it makes me feel better knowing the lakers are done
they are 13-12, and aren't even close to one of the best teams.
but yeah that trade sucked

Are you talking about FA? If so, then the Pels have tried that before. They used to not look to the draft to build their team.

I mean, it was a great haul and getting the number 1 pick was just bonus.

Davis wanted out, not sure what else could have been done

Weird take. I mean we still got Ingram and AD was leaving at his first chance so what should they have done? Get nothing?

That's the worst part. That draft there was literally NO ONE on the planet, not named Ja Morant, that would've taken anyone over Zion.

99% of franchises would trade everything for one championship.

To be fair, the trade itself should have worked. We got an all star, two NBA starter level players, and multiple picks. It’s too bad that we have an incompetent GM that couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity

The one that their own fans don't even remember

I guess it was worth it to destroy the franchise

Yet here we are talking about it. You seen salty as frick. Im not a lakers fan, but they got a championship.. pelicans got zion "who is too fat to play" and last seed in the west. One team won here. Literally

I mean the Lakers were bidding against no one but themselves and still gave up more for a player than anyone ever had. And they gave that up to David Griffin

Bron and AD could have been a mini-dynasty but their lack of assets forced them to panic trade for Russ and now they’re fricked

Congrats on the one title, sure, but it’s hard to say the Pels didn’t maximize their trade value for a guy who was leaving anyway and only going one place.

quibble:
the last place position in west is not a seed per se.
only 8 teams are seeded for the playoffs.
even the 9th and 10th place teams are not seeded. after the playin games the survivors are seeded 7th and 8th.
fwiw two east teams have worse records so pels currently sit 3rd worst which gets you 14% chance at #1.
peace. out.

They won a bubble championship which means nothing and Davis might get traded if they keep sucking arse

I never heard that narrative. It was more of frustration that AD still had 1.5 years left with Pelicans but somehow the Pelicans had no choice but to trade him and it had to be the Lakers.

Given the above, at least they got decent value and would have been worse if it was Kuzma instead of Ingram.
