Absolutely. I follow Neville. They have a very good production they put on YouTube. I used to think I was spoiled just getting to listen to the radio broadcast here in Houston but now it feels like I am a watching small college team play. We put in on the big TV in the house and treat Friday nights as sacred again since we really don’t have the cult following of the local team here where I live like we do with Neville. I also try to make it home to attend at least one game and if the stars align, a game at home at Thanksgiving.

WM has a stacked lineup this year. At Pulaski Academy, at North Desoto, at Catholic, at Neville, at ASH, season finale hosting Ruston.

Well, when your high school is a football factory, you should expect schedules like that

Sorta. I live right by my old High School. Every Friday night (Home games) I get to hear the band, the crowd, the announcers from my back patio.

It is pretty cool.

Yep.

South Oak Cliff (Dallas) vs. Houston North Shore, Friday, August 30th in H-Town. Nice In-State match-up between reigning state champions to start the season. North Shore is a pre-season Top 10 nationally and S. Oak Cliff still has some arrows in the quiver.

Pretty sure they were both runner up last year to Port Neches-Groves and Duncanville. But still…a badass matchup.

Where are they playing Midland Legacy and Stephenville? There is some serious distance between those schools and Ruston.

You're absolutely right. Memory is the 1st thing to go, or so I've been told.

Welp...Evangel back to doing Evangel things. After the phenom Calvary qb "decided" to switch to Evangel, all of a sudden athletes from all over start arriving on campus. Latest is Terrel Owens' kid who transferred from Florida. Man, I'm glad to see that these youngsters are embracing Christianity. Of course, the coaches apparently don't even know who these freak athletes are until they show up on campus. Anywho....appears they will be stacked with D1 talent all over the field.

Probably meeting in the middle somewhere

The most nonsensical matchup in Louisiana this season will be Haynesville vs the Willow School of New Orleans, to be played in the Jackson suburb of Clinton, MS

Some of those 1As were superb when I was growing up, such as Kentwood, West St. John, Haynesville, OCS, Mangham( more in baseball with coach Wilcher), Southern Lab, and those teams could hang with 3a and 4a easily.

I just watched Friday Night Lights. It gets me amped up. The book is better, though. I also stumbled upon some Youtube highlights of the 1988 Odessa Permian @ Marshall game...just your typical non-district battle between schools located about 500 miles apart. Odell Beckham Sr played a key role in the Marshall win.

I am curious about winning trends with schools in other states.

Nowadays, in Texas, Odessa Permian and Midland Lee are afterthoughts. The scene is dominated by the Interstate 20 corridor it seems, even in smaller classes. Furthermore, it's dominated by suburb schools. The triangle from SA, Houston, and DFW will see new schools built annually. As soon as they become varsity, they'll contend at a championship level, and then fade away until a new school in the area is built. Inner-city schools don't challenge for titles with the exception of a South Oak Cliff in Dallas and Austin LBJ a couple years back. Hell, some of the inner-ring suburbrs are trash now (looking at UIL Aldine ISD).
