And this article does a good job of explaining why national tv ratings aren't a good way to judge the popularity of baseball
...and that article is clearly written by a baseball apologist.
...and the reasons given in support of his conclusion that tv ratings don't matter -- i.e. "baseball is no longer a national sport" -- are essentially admissions, in and of themselves, that baseball's popularity is declining.

you think they're watching the rest of the games?
quote:You will see for national television the rating have decreased... this can be attributed to more people watching regional games
I can't quickly find television ratings numbers for the entirety of the season

It's pretty simple. You find well-written articles to back-up your claims and post them.
Similar to this:

Or you can continue to just post two graphs and make ridiculous assertions.

They aren't random. They show stuff. Thank you for actually presenting evidence.

The 2012 Harris Poll has baseball at 16%.
Notice that poll was conducted in mid-December, when the NFL season is nearing peak interest and MLB is in a dead period. While the NFL is clearly most popular, a similar poll conducted in July or August would likely show MLB in the 18-20% range. An on-line poll in a sport's offseason is a weak measuring stick of interest.

baseball is an intellectual sport, probably why you dont get it.
The MLB will never completely go away, but it's been fading for a long time now

The championship for every sport, with the the exception of football, has probably been in decline over the past 20-30 years.
the ratings for everything, save the Super Bowl, has been declining for the past 20-30 years. This thing called cable TV happened.
The highest rated show in 2011 was American Idol, with a 14.4 share. In 1991, Cheers got a 21.3. In 1981, Dallas got a 34.5.
TV is clearly about to go out of business.

2011 World Series= Game 7 is the single highest-rated Friday night program in FOX TV history.
And yet still lower than the last game 7 of the NBA finals

Baseball isn't the same national game that football is.
Also you have 81 opportunities to see your home team play live. You have 41 in the NBA and 8 in the NFL and CFB on average. So TV ratings are gonna be higher. The regional ratings for clubs are really strong. It may not be the number 1 sport any more, but it is not in any way shape or form "in trouble". People are going to ball games and thats what matters.
All-star viewing is down because you can easily see any play play any game on your TV, tablet or iphone 162 different times. The all-star game had more appeal because you didn't get to see those guys play all the time.
