Did your cable package not have TNT or TBS?

Well I have never been a guy that goes ga ga over any athlete. I loved watching Magic play. MJ was incredible. Barry Sanders did things I had not seen before or since. I've never had a player poster in my room growing up. They are humans just like me. Yet they are more talented at things than I am and have more money. There are two player deaths that affected me alot. They were Len Bias and Hank Gathers only because I felt robbed of how great these guys could be and was not able to see it.

I think the majority of the public has their head in the sand, for better or worse, on the everyday tragedy stories. You can pretty easily ignore them. You couldn't really get away from something like the Kobe news.

Not just that, if we had to be the same level of upset for every single death we heard about, no one would be able to function in life. You get emotional over the ones you have an emotional investment in/with.

Also, funny for how many years we debated Lebron/Kobe(not in recent years for obvious reasons) on the MSB, and Kobe's last tweet he'll ever make was to congratulate Lebron on passing him on the scoring list.

What movie of his would I have seen?

i'm not much of a movie guy, and like I did point out, I don't even recall a Heath Ledger movie I watched, so what connection would I have to him?

If you grew up in the 90s/2000s with cable, I have no clue how you haven’t seen A Knights Tale and 10 Things I Hare About You a 1000x on tbs and tnt

I don't think its really that surprising, sports figures are often associated with good memories you had growing up. When they pass it probably invokes a lot of nostalgia for people. You don't have to have met a person for them to have had some sort of impact on your life.

He was at least at one time in his life, but not sure that continued into his later years. I didn't follow his life that closely, but I feel badly that children died in that accident, makes it way worse overall. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I literally don't know a thing about A Knight's Tale.

10 Things, I've probably seen it, but if you asked me 10 minutes ago to name 1 person in that movie, i wouldn't like my odds.

Gonna take a stab, Freddie Prinze Jr?

But I sure as shite wouldn't have known Heath Ledger was in it.

You're wrong here, which makes sense given your posts in this thread.

You seem to take social media pretty seriously.

I am personally surprised by how many people are "truly upset" about this

Attention whores aside, I doubt many people are truly "truly upset" over it. I would be shocked if any members of the MSB cancelled plans, took a bereavement day off of work, bawled themselves to sleep or passed up sex with the old lady because of this.

But it is very sad for a number of reasons. The fact that it happened in the first place, the kids that died without getting a chance to really start their own lives, Kobe's relative youth, the fact that this happened bonding with his daughter as opposed to crashing with a bunch of Vegas strippers in the Bellagio parking lot, the fact that Kobe seems to have mellowed out in the past few years and will never get to enjoy that part of his life and the simple fact that the death of a super rich super famous guy in a pretty random fashion is an unwelcome reminder that we're all getting our own cards punched one day, too.

So, yeah, not a surpise that the news is bumming a lot of people out.
