I would never sign up for just one game, no matter what sport. I hope this fails miserably.

If you've never had Peacock, you can just get the free trial and watch the game

It isn't rocket science

What they're banking on is people signing up for the free trial, forgetting about it, then collecting monthly payments until the subscriber cancels.

The internet says they have 30 million subscribers which is waaaay more than I would have thought. I'm interested in watching this game so I'll probably pay but I'll complain the whole time

I thought most of the good illegal streams have been shut down lately. I used to see a bunch of information on here about those, but rarely anymore. Anyway, NBC sucks me in by putting some French Open matches on Peacock. But, it was always only $4.99 and I think you can cancel anytime.

It's not only that. Chances are if you follow other sports besides the NFL, you've already used the free trial already. They exclusively air Big 10 football and basketball games, Major League baseball games, Premier League matches, tennis matches, Olympic events, etc... That's how they lure you in. Put one event on that you can watch for free and then when they have exclusive rights to other sporting events that you want to watch, you have to pay for it.

Which is exactly the same thing all subscription based services that have a free trial do

Sure, but most of the time people aren't signing up for free trials to watch one program on one day. You'll have people do a free trial to binge watch some show they want to watch or take a free trial of HBO Max to watch free movies for a month or whatever. Hell, I did the free Peacock trial last olympics so I could watch live events that were tape-delayed on network TV. This is a little more unique in that you're signing up for an entire streaming service to watch one game. I'd bet they make tens of millions off people doing the free trial, forgetting about it, and then incurring monthly fee indefinitely without actually using peacock again.

I refuse to do PPV of any kind to watch an NFL game. I would do it for a Bama game if it was a great opponent.

A boycott? By boycotting something it would have to affect their business. It's already the 2nd week of January. Peacock is a monthly subscription. They already have their subscribers money for the month. The NFL already has Peacocks money through the deal the business deal they made. If you aren't a subscriber then you can't really boycott something you've never paid for or watched now can you? So it's really not a "boycott". You simply won't be watching and you're not affecting their bottom dollar either way.

So you don’t think Peacock or their parent company is expecting to gain subscribers when this game airs?

And do you not think the subscription service model is based off of gaining subscribers for limited amounts of media, and keeping them for longer than the time it takes them to consume it?

Has peacock already billed their advertisers based on current subscription numbers? Or projected based on typical playoff ratings?

Most of the time, the highest rated programs are not streamed live on one day.

Y’all are crazy if you don’t think this is simply a play by the streaming service to gain subscribers that will convert to recurring customers. Isn’t peacock NBC? Don’t they already have a pretty robust distribution infrastructure in place?

It isn't illegal to receive it. You're just accessing a stream that is likely illegal to stream out over the Internet, not stream in. It's not your fault someone did that. There was no warning it was illegal to receive. You are a victim of fraud. Not a perpetrator of it.

None of this is true. It's very much against the law to receive it. Whether you'll actually be prosecuted for it doesn't make it legal

Boycotting this game would mean you cancel your Peacock service.

"I haven't ever given Peacock my money and I'm going to continue to do so."

Wow, what a boycott.

I probably won’t watch and that is the one time slot that is best for me this weekend. Even if I subscribed to the Peacock (I probably do to be honest, I have no clue), it still pisses me off to have to switch back and forth. If that makes me an old man, so be it.

Not boycotting, just not paying for it. Watching an individual football game is not worth six dollars to me. Not to mention the two minutes of time I would not get back that would be used to sign up for peacock.
