I went through that phase as a kid. It’s crazy that decades later, you start to realize wrestling is just as real as the bullshite we watch every Saturday and Sunday. Hell, basketball is on that level too. The difference I see is that wrestlers and the organizations don’t hide that it’s a male soap opera. They are honest about the product and present it for what it is, entertainment.

A guy I work with is huge into WWE. I used to think the adult wrestling fan was a little odd, but now I get it.

When wrestling is great, it can be some of the best entertainment you can watch, but when it is bad, it can be completely unwatchable. Unfortunately, there has been far more bad than good the past 20+ years.

I love wrestling but not the current stuff. But I’ll spend many a evening going down an old Mid South or late 80’s NWA rabbit hole

Gave it up a long time ago but liked it as a kid. Kinda of like video games just grew out of it over time. I played video games longer than I watched wrestling.

I don't follow wrestling but am vaguely aware of current events in the business. I do enjoy old NWA clips. That was some good stuff.

Since the internet has killed kayfabe, I would imagine it's really close to impossible to tell any stories, or keep any storylines with it's talent believable. There is no mystery to the talent, they go out of their way to make themselves marketable outside of the ring, so they have to be something themselves, and not their characters. I use to enjoy rasslin, but it's just been complete trash for a long long time. I think the last time I paid attention to it was the Daniel Bryan storyline and his crowning at WrestleMania in NOLA.

The Internet has actually made the personalities better. These guys have to be believable in and out of the ring so what you end up with is a whole lot of grey area. Even Babyface Cody has a dark streak in him and it wouldn't surprise me if he turned pure heel.

It can be a lot of fun. My oldest son got really into it over the past few months and we watched Raw religiously. Went to the one they had in Birmingham a few weeks ago and sat just a few rows from the ring.

I also found that Peacock has every episode of Smackdown ever filmed, starting all the way back in 1999, so we have watched a few episodes of that too.

My personal opinion: the quality of the product is a lot lower than it used to be. It isn't that it's bad, it's that it's too... polished. It's become stale. They don't even pretend like the actual wrestling is the focus anymore, except at the PPVs. About half of the episodes of Raw these days don't even have a main event to cap the evening, they end with whoever the opponents are in the main match of the upcoming PPV coming out to have a confrontation with each other in the ring but not an actual match - just talking. They regularly cut to commercial breaks in the middle of ongoing matches. There is in no way a feeling of "anything might happen at any moment" the way there used to be. I think it's a combination of wanting to be a lot more family-friendly - which I don't mind this at all, mind you, since my sons watch it - while at the same time taking themselves way, way too seriously. A Bray Wyatt or a Mankind or even an Undertaker doesn't really seem like they would find a place in this version of WWE because they'd be seen as "too gimmicky." At least that's my impression.

Championship wrasslin was great back in the day. Now its just a soap opera with an audience of 40 year old male virgins.

no not any more, but i appreciate wrasslin for what it is...an art form. I stopped viewing it as 'fake' after the montreal screwjob. seeing how many were affected by it in their real lives made me finally 'get it'.
