to make that call I think you legitimately need to see a small gap between ground and foot.

i don't see how you can say it was "clear" since it is being debated all over the place this morning ... the left foot didn't CLEARLY get down .. it may have or it may not have .. you didn't have the conclusive, proper angle from the back of the end zone, down the sideline to make that definitive determination, nap ..

im not even sure what we're arguing here anymore. does anyone actually think they shouldve overturned the call?
Posted on 2/2/09 at 10:19 am to bbap
i don't think the call should have been overturned, because the call on the field was a TD and there was no indiputable evidence to over turn it .. because you didn't have any good camera angles ..

which you could have seen from back of the end zone .. an angle they didn't have for some reason ..

i just don't see how anyone can act as if it was CLEARLY conclusive either way unless they had the steelers on the money line or something ..

I can't find anything of the front side to know whether he had the ball at this point or not.
My hunch is that there was not enough evidence to overturn the original ruling.
EDIT: But IMO the other photos show him going up to make the catch, and this pic shows it nestled closer to his body (after the catch was made) with both feet clearly down. So if he in fact has possession at this point (which I assume he does) then its gravy baby.

Get over it. It was a touchdown.

Close to what?
That's a fricking TD

You'd be better off debating whether Early Doucet's catch against AZ state in 2005 was really a td.

you don't know from that angle if he has control of the ball yet .. you can't profess it as water tight either way ..
Posted on 2/2/09 at 11:09 am to SlowFlowPro
When all else fails, trust the official who was on the spot.

we caught a break on that call ..

But I have seen from other angles that he did have control at that point.
It was a catch, and I have no doubts.
With regards to the game last night, of all the plays that took place, this is near the bottom of the list of plays that should be in question.

I am 99% sure that it was a catch. I reserve the 1% for that small chance there is some bizarre camera angle which overturns that belief. But it looked good to me as it happened and on review.

call me crazy .. but i don't think the ball got across the goal line on the INT return before his head hit the ground ...

I'm with you Baloo, I guess there just isn't much else to talk about if there a huge debate on this play.
