I really wish he would have lived long enough to be dragged to trial and officially desecrated in the court of law like his buddy Jerry.

Anyone else feel this way?

Cue the one or two defenders on here who are still suckered by the Paterno myth.

agreed... i know i'll get blasted for this, but maybe he didn't know the severity of the issue.. there's a lot of things that we pretend to know but really don't.. i'm not going to say that he's totally innocent, because i think that in some way, this whole mess could have been avoided or stopped, but i really don't know what kind of involvement joe paterno had in this situation..

really sad all around

When he resigned, I knew he would be dead in a few months. I was 100% expecting it when it happened. So no.

I kind of agree, i think he was probably willfully naive about the whole thing. But he didn't actually witness anything, so just going to the cops with hearsay " My GA MQuery saw..." does absolutely nothing. He clearly should have pushed the higher ups to call the police and let them investigate after what McQuery told him given there were past allegations.

I would have liked to have heard his side of the story.

the feelings of the OP are similar to mine when the CIA director died after dramatically (IMO) taking poison to avoid giving testimony for the coup/election that removed Carter from office, via CIA selling missiles to the Ayatollah to keep Carter from negotiation of prisoners to be released.

He knew the severity, that is why he covered it up.

I'm not happy he is dead, I'm happy he got fired though. I work at a nursing home, if I saw some CNA groping a resident I would take it to my boss too. If I didn't see the police there that same day I would call them myself. I relate children to old folks at nursing homes all the time.

See...this is where the story loses me. If McQueary was so appalled by what he saw in the showers that day then why didn't he report it to the police after it was apparent that Paterno was going to do nothing? And, if McQueary was so disgusted by Sandusky, why was he his partner at a golf tournament less than a year later?

Paterno was a sanctimonious hypocrite. Always trumpeting how PSU did things the right way. But when the Ws started to slack off what did JoePa do? Bring in a QB to Happy Valley with a sexual assault past.
He proclaimed he would never leave college football to "the Jackie Sherrills and Barry Switzers of the world." Last I checked, those two didn't cover up for an assistant coach anally blasting young boys.

According to the book on him, just recently released, he was quoted as knowing his legacy was ruined. So, to that extent, he knew. But the tears he was described as having don't hold up to the pain & suffering the victims went thru & are still going thru. He claimed not to know what the word sodomy meant, but he proclaimed that he was not omniprescient as part of his defense. He knew & chose to try & fight it out.
