Is he only a 4-3 end? I mean scheme wise he fits better there than in a 3-4 as either an end or an OLB. I guess he could be like a Ware type guy who plays at 275 or more as an OLB but I could see teams who play a 3-4 not wanting him quite as bad
he could easily be a 3-4 olb like Suggs

Surprised Jacksonville didn't go for one in '13, especially since rookie HCs like to do so.
They didn't like anybody in this year's QB class. Gabbert gets one more year. The idea is either he: a) makes significant progress and becomes our franchise guy because we built up other areas of the team, or b) he sucks again and we have all those pieces in place when we draft a new franchise QB next year. Obviously I'd prefer the first scenario, but realistically, I'm okay with them waiting a year to get a guy from a QB class that they think is significantly stronger.

I think Gabbert is going to suck just enough to secure Bridgewater at the #2 slot especially with Hunter suspended to start the season.

Honestly, I can only think of two things, AND I AM NOT SAYING EITHER OF THESE ARE LIKELY TO HAPPEN:
1. Death
2. Imprisonment
The dude is that special.
so basically he should sign an agent and spend the next year just working out and being in peak condition for the NFL

Only reason would be a QB emerges and the team with the #1 pick needs a QB.

I'm glad he won't. I love seeing him play

They did manage to pick up a QB that had received projections as high as the 3rd in Matt Scott for practically free. I really liked him, but his size and mechanics are a few years away(and whatever else caused him not to be drafted at all).

If someone has a pretty decent Defense and an awful QB I could see someone going QB if a guy like Murray has a really good year. Other than that, no.

I would put money on him being the #1 pick, but a lot can happen in a year. Going in to last year Barkley was the favorite to be the #1 pick. Not to compare Barkley to Clowney because Clowney is on another planet, but if at this time last year someone would have said Matt Barkley would last until the 4th round they would have gotten laughed at.

Never know this early.
However, if the #1 pick has great pass rushers already they would probably just trade the #1 spot for tons of other picks and players and JC would still be #1.

Qb or left tackle would be the only other possible threats to clowney nit being first overall. Injuries of course are always a factor

Yeah, Scott was a nice pickup in UDFA. His old QB coach is our QB coach now, so there's that connection, too. He's had concussion issues, to the point where he was taking hits, staying in the game and throwing up before walking back to the huddle. I think that, combined with your reasoning, is why he fell out of the draft.

I could see a team that was set with quality ends, trading the pick down-- he'd still end up #1 though. I imagine a team could command a pretty hefty price for the pick.

It's amazing how these boards devolve to the point where we take the absolute most extreme view and pretend it's a widely held view so we can knock it down.

Is signability a concern anymore now that there's a rookie pay scale? Obviously he can't holdout for more money, but can he holdout because he doesn't want to be a part of the team like Eli or Elway?
