That was Mason Plumlee, Duke's McDonald's All American freshman starting PF

Your Weir twins will be lucky to get 8minutes of PT per game with the loaded frontcourt UNC has with Davis, Thompson, Zeller, and Henson

I am anxious to see how good Carolina will be without Lawson, Ellington and Hansbrough.

Just curious, are there any LSU fans in this thread that would pull for Duke over LSU in basketball? As an alumnus and diehard LSU basketball fan, this is hard to fathom...

Duke, and LSU fans alike are the creme of the crop when it comes to class. I can only hope to reach those levels. Please forgive me.

I pulled for Carolina over LSU in the NCAA tournament last year. I had a tough time pulling for LSU in the world series a couple years ago. I will be happy either way in the chick filet opener in football next year.

My point is, none of these teams are named Duke.

But that has very little to do with one and dones. OSU and Memphis are the only two teams with one and dones that made it far.

Duke's failure to get past the Sweet 16 is related to two things: the highly rated 2005 class that flopped big time and the fact that the team has had a lot of depth at three positions and basically no quality depth at the other two (PG and center).

Im a life long Mississippi State and Duke fan, and when we played against each other back in the 2005 NCAA tournament it was a no lose situation, but if I had to choose the one I pull more for its Mississippi State.

I have never even watched a Duke football game in my life not alone cheered for them.

Duke basketball is somewhat similar to Notre Dame Football in that they have fans that like them in their respective sports and thats it. They arent connected to the universities and dont follow their other athletic programs.

Watching Christian Laettner make the shot against Kentucky when I was 12 years old made me a Duke fan for life. I have always thought very highly of Coach K and read several of his books as well.

I think most Duke fans are like Msukb. They started watching Duke in the late '80s with Dawkins, Laettner, and Hurley. There are also the younger fans who started watching in the late '90s with Brand, Battier, J-Will, etc. Then you have the teenage girls who like JJ Redick, but I don't think there are too many of those here

They stick to basketball, so it's not all that different from Notre Dame football fans, UNC basketball fans, Syracuse basketball fans, Kentucky basketball fans, etc.

Whenever I start my Thaddeus Lewis threads there are always a handful of posters who reply because they like ACC football like Augustus, but that's it. I don't have any problem with this whatsoever because they aren't being hypocritical.

Kracka, I watched the Wears when they were sophomores in high school. One of them was starting for Mater Dei and the other was coming off the bench but getting lots of minutes. I wasn't impressed with either of them at the time, and there were other young players there who looked much better including Renardo Sidney.

He wasn't a lazy fatass at the time, and he wasn't launching three pointers like JJ Redick either.

That's because most of the fans of the school didn't actually attend it (especially when you are talking about Duke, ND, BC, etc). If Duke football has sucked since Spurrier, they have no incentive to follow it seriously, kind of like much fewer fans follow ND's basketball program because they don't have that much history, and their team is good for 20 wins and a 9 seed most years.

But for some reason, Duke and ND get singled out for this. Alabama has tons of football only fans, Kentucky has tons of basketball only fans, etc. Even the actual student bodies reflect this to a lesser extent.

I fricking hate Duke and everything they stand for. I'm a UNC fan. Although this thread does give me the chance to germans this pic.
