Why don’t vandy send Clark Lea to psu and hire Franklin back?
Posted on 10/12/25 at 7:18 pm to Allthatfades
I wish they'd go after BK

He's only in year 3 at Nebraska, which was his breakout year at Temple and Baylor, and he has a manageable enough schedule to win at least 10 games. Who else is a realistic option for Penn State? Any hire they make is going to be a risk.
Rhule is 8-13 in the Big ten
Cignetti is 11-1
Care to take a guess at which has the deep NIL pockets and trophy case full of shite and mountains of tradition?
Rhule is a bum, just like every other coach Nebraska brought in after Bo Pelini.

To invest $50 Million in booster money to buyout a head coach that got you to the CFP Semis just last season to go out and hire Rhule would seem like poor money management, in my unprofessional opinion.
Of course, not that I'd feel sorry for Pedo State and the people who still support that athletic program.

Nobody knows if he is any better because he has jumped at jobs. Not saying that is wrong but had he stayed another year at Baylor (i understand going pro and covid) he probably could have proved that he could build a team and get them over the hump.

Penn State should just do the funniest thing and hire Trent Dilfer.

I feel like getting rid of Franklin was premature. Grass is always greener on the other side mentality. For the money they are laying down I don't know who they will get that's so much better.

What has Penn State accomplished since beating Miami in the Fiesta Bowl in Jan. 1987? Has Penn State produced a QB of note? A WR? Have they played for a National Title, or even close until 2024?

Rhule or maybe Matt Campbell. I'd atleast look at Jim Mora Jr and Brian Daboll.
Posted on 10/12/25 at 8:38 pm to Allthatfades
Isn't Rhule like 2-23 all-time vs. Top 25 teams? I hope PSU doesn't rush into things. Nebraska still has some tough games coming up. Their best wins this season were vs. Cincy and Maryland for God's sake

Hopefully they follow the rhules and don’t make impermissible contact.

Saw something with a Penn st podcast guy (take that for what you will) but apparently there were some things set in place before the season. Beat Oregon. Beat Ohio St or make it deep into the playoffs. Losing to Oregon didn't hurt and he said that honestly the UCLA game didn't hurt that much either (the guy said it was a classic trap game)....but if you can't bounce back against Northwestern then beating Ohio St was out of the question and obviously so was the playoffs. Penn St spent a lot on the season bringing in the DC along with other things.
These aren't my opinions but that of the Penn St podcaster (i know) but he seemed to have some insight on things. The timing of the firing definitely feels like the A.D. went to him before kickoff against Northwestern and said...look....if you don't win we will fire you after the game. Even his post game press conference seemed as such.

Rhule is average maybe a little above average and that's it. Penn St has to knock it out the park with this hire. Ruhle i would think is not it

They should've had a legit plan in place before letting Franklin go. Nebraska made the same mistake years ago when they canned Frank Solich

Would hate for him to be wasted on a shite school but Gruden has to be one of the people receiving phone calls

They arguably should have in 1994, and they were rolling in 1999 until the bottom fell out. They also had a randomly great season in 2005.

A WR?
Producing great wide receivers is some achievement. They did produce Saquon Barkley, several solid defensive players.
I’m not saying they are an elite program, but Franklin has them more relevant than they have ever been since 2000. I’m not a Franklin fanboy, but he’s a solid coach. I don’t have to hope Penn State botches this. It will be a screw up. They aren’t going to hire someone better.
