GOOD - I can live with this if they go to NY and it's upheld. This is the right thing to do at least.

Is that the wording of the rule? It seems as though the catcher's natural throwing motion would never have him throwing the ball directly back over the plate

I think of it like football though. Fumbles get incorrectly called dead all the time and nobody gets a TD out of it because a whistle stops the play even though the dude can walk in.
