In the words of pirate king, they lost their second best player and scorer in Feb. AJ is the best college player I’ve seen since Durant. He’s a high flyer, can score any which way, hypes up his teammates and is scared of no one. Big fan of his. Did everything he could to try and will that shite BYU team around him tonight to victory.

35 points and 10 boards on a .580 TS% against constant double teams all night is elite.

His game is honestly better suited for the nba. Whoever gets him is getting a franchise player. Hope it’s my Wiz.

So did he not develop? Or did he carry the team? If he carried the team, sounds like he developed a bit, no?

Uh…the Tourney is a crapshoot. If they didn’t have a big injury to another star, they probably finish better and are positioned better to advance.

BYU on the other hand…I mean I don’t if the guy that gave him $7 mil is happy with a 1st round exit. Need more than 1 guy to be a good team

I mean their second best player who averaged 18/6 tore his ACL.

It wasn't like it was Dybantsa and no one else.

He's going to make like $500 million before he turns 30

If he gets a second supermax (very possible) he'll clear $700MM before he turns 30.

That's just pure NBA salary and no endorsement money, of which he will get dozens if not hundreds of additional millions.

I don't think he is going to be struggling financially any time soon lol.

A few guys have carried average teams to the Title or Title game.

Off the top of my head...

Danny and the Miracles, Carmelo and Syracuse, Bird and Indiana State.

Carmelo had Hakim Warrick for starters, who was another first round pick.

I mean, you went back to ‘79 and came up with three teams out of over 90 that had appeared in the natty. And that Cuse team was more than just Melo.

Are you new to college sports?

I’m sure he will lose sleep over this. What do you remember about Zion’s year at Duke? I know he busted a shoe.

I don’t think anyone that paid him thought BYU was going to win a title. Lot of people like me picked Texas in this game anyway.

At this level you just buy the best players you can, and it’s good to say in 10 years if he becomes an NBA star that he went to BYU

And if he went to a top 5 team people would complain that they were just offering him more than other schools did and should've gone to a team where he would stand out instead.

I think it gives these schools exposure that aren't really in the conversation as elite, but you get elite 1 and done's and then people start to notice them.

You sound like Kentucky and Duke fans when they were mad about not getting Ben Simmons. They sounded exactly like you sound when LSU didn't make the NCAA Tournament with him. They should be thankful they didn't have to claim the softest big man ever.

I don't really understand the point here. Would you rather he have taken less money and formed a super team at say Duke? And they just run the table and dominate everyone?

I'm glad there are so many schools that spend a good amount in CBB to prevent a super team from forming. Where you've got the #1 and #2 freshmen with the top 2 or 3 transfers and they're all lottery picks. It's a good thing they mostly spread out.

This. Injuries ultimately killed aspirations of being elite but this year has been a success for BYU when you zoom out.

The marginal value of one big player/narrative is far greater to a program like BYU than it is to a program like a Duke. The OP’s premise that Dybantsa was wasted at BYU compared to the value that could have been realized by going to a blue blood etc is 100% wrong. BYU might have the number one draft pick ffs.

Duke almost lost to Siena. College basketball is a very risky investment in general.

Alabama backdoored 1 Final 4 in its history. Hardly a safe bet for anyone’s legacy.
