It was a 1 possession game in the 4th quarter even after ND missed a 27 yard field goal. It ended up being a competitive game. The closest margin of victory OSU had their entire playoff game.

Brian Kelly was the mastermind behind their soft arse schedules. Freeman’s future schedules look a little different. Of course, one guy is a little tougher than the other.

ND should have stayed independent in football instead of that dumb deal with the ACC. Your other programs can be in the Big East and you are in the Big Ten for hockey.

ND used to have a pretty good scheduling formula. You play your traditional rivals like Purdue, Michigan State, Navy, USC, and Michigan. Then you work in other schools like BC and some SEC schools and some ACC schools. You could easily have a good schedule like this

Michigan
Purdue
Rice
Michigan State
Alabama
Navy
LSU
Army
Florida State
Pitt
BC
USC

Win 10 games and even 9 games with a schedule like this you are in the Playoffs every year.

BOTH "ducked" the game.

Or more accurately, both were willing to play. But they could not agree on when the game would be played.

ND wanted to continue the tradition of playing the game in October (went at ND) and at the end of the season (when at USC). USC did not want to play ND during the Big 10 schedule.

This year the game would have been at USC on November 28th. USC did not want to play ND at the end of the season. So they proposed playing it as the season opener in "week 0". ND did not want to play it then. Now it's just a silly pissing match blaming each other with BOTH are at "fault"

This would be my top choice. You’d prob have to have a (probably unofficial) agreement for, say, 4 annual games with either the SEC or B1G (wouldn’t have to be as formal as the current ACC agreement). I don’t think the B1G would do that. I think the SEC might be willing, especially if it’d prevent ND from being a full B1G member.

I'm pretty sure the Big Ten would be fine with an unofficial 4-game agreement if it involves playing traditional rivals like Purdue, MSU, Michigan, and USC almost every year.

True, I guess I considered USC as an automatic/separate. So something like:

USC
Navy
Stanford
Clemson
^(Those top two should be annual. Stanford has recently been annual, even though I hate it. Clemson is scheduled to be annual starting 2027. I wouldn’t mind making Michigan basically annual again, like it more-or-less was for a while.)

Then annually:

4 SEC or B1G (per agreement)
3 total from the ACC / Big 12 / (non-agreement) SEC/B1G
1 additional G5 besides Navy

I dont have an issue w/ being independent.
Have a real schedule
Img in Florida gods and plays top raked teams all over the country at least they are using their freedom to go play high end schools. ND has that ability and gets rice.
If they do not play a top 25 schedule to start the season then they shouldn't qualify.

75% of their schedule are to teams that effectively lose every single game.

If I were a voter based on that and their tantrum from last year I'm leaving them off any ballot indefinitely

Hey ND, you’re welcome to come on down south and join the SEC. We will gladly take your $ and throw it into our pot.

We would gladly love to get into the Chicago market and piss off Big10 folks. Indiana borders Kentucky so it’s not even close to the jumble that the Big10 has with USC/UCLA/Oregon/Washington.

South Bend travel to and from most of the SEC isn’t nearly as expensive as traveling from the east coast to the west coast for sports. Just saying. It’s not as far fetched as people think

ND would NEVER agree to an even rev share in a conference. They’re too greedy and fearful of losing their status.

Thats pretty much a de facto ACC schedule with bad B1G teams as OOC. Navy and BYU are comparable to Georgia Tech and Florida State/Clemson(they’re no longer 2017 Clemson, get that out of your head)

As a catholic, I absolutely abhor the fact that Notre Dame is considered THE Catholic University
I really wish Creighton or Gonzaga would get a football program going. There's plenty of FCS catholic schools like Incarnate Word in San Antonio, just need a different top shelf team with a football program.
