We don’t need every team that has a chance to win the title in the playoff. The beauty of the sport is the importance of the regular season, every game matters.
There should be teams that could go on a run that get left out. If you don’t take care of business in the fall you shouldn’t be playing in the winter.
It’s a dumb rule, but so are all of the other auto-bids.
It was a 1 possession game in the 4th quarter even after ND missed a 27 yard field goal. It ended up being a competitive game. The closest margin of victory OSU had their entire playoff game.
When is the last time Notre Dame got blown out by a “real team?”

The Brian Kelly era? Who is living in the past?
“It's time to just start locking them out unless they pick a conference. frick this shite. The Power 4 need to get together on this and let them know that they'll steer the playoff committee to begin locking independents out”

I don’t understand this thought process. Everyone hates the direction college football is going. Hate bloated conferences. Why should the school that been Independent for over 120 years be forced to do the thing everyone hates?
Do you have any evidence for them trying to make their schedule easier?

They’ve added Bama, Texas, Florida, BYU, Auburn. They’ve played 1 FCS team in their history. The G5 team they typically play is a nightmare for most teams and just finished in the top 25.
Guaranteed to be in the playoffs? They literally just missed it. What kind of guarantee is that?
USC blew up the PAC 12 to join the Big 10, a move that 99% of this board hates. They put the series in Jeopardy for the opportunity to play Rutgers and Maryland.
They are in a good spot. Made 3 of the last 8 playoffs (probably should have made it this year). Have the #1 rated recruiting class + portal class and their starting QB returning.

As long as Freeman is there is 2020s are looking good.
I guess we could have had a JMU vs Tulane final too
Are we trying to say OU or Bama would have beaten Oregon is they didn’t play each other?
“Could have made an all SEC title game”

In what world would that happen. The SEC has not won a playoff game against a top 10 team in 2 years off the 12 team tourney. The average loss is 14 points!

That can all change quickly, but damn, let’s be honest about it.
What has the conference accomplished in post season play the last 3 years? I don’t have time to do all the math right now but I bet it’s averaging 10+ point loses against real teams.
Top dogs? You got your shite pumped by 35.
Playoff games are all that matters, what is the SEC’s biggest playoff win against an out of conference opponent the last few years?

Texas beating an autobid ASU in overtime? There aren’t many other options.
They have no 5-starts and three 4-star high school recruits coming in next year, coming off a playoff season. Most teams competing for the title don’t rely on the portal like that.
Relying on the transfer portal will eventually bite them in the arse. When some high priced guys don’t pan out it’ll create culture issues. This will be their last playoff run with Cig.
When you have 16 teams, no divisions, and an 8 game schedule the conference standings don’t mean much. Do you honestly think Bama was the best team in the SEC?
Alabama was not the best regular season SEC team. Oversized conferences make standings all out of whack.

The committee, AP, and coaches all had them as the 5th best SEC team, even before they got blasted by UGA in Atlanta.
Agree on Ole Miss, UGA and A&M.

Bama and OU were the issue. The committee decided to make qualifying for the SEC championship game an autobid, and had to put OU in due to the head to head.

The frustrating part is in 2023 when Bama got in over FSU, resume didn’t matter, it was all about putting teams in that had a chance to win. This year it totally flipped. No one thought Bama or OU had a shot, still got the invite.
