Stolen bases from here on out will be tainted until they change the stupid pickoff rule. The bigger base isn’t a big deal but telling a pitcher he can only pick off a certain number of times fundamentally changes the game. It would be like telling an offense in football they can only pass 5 times on a drive. The defense is about to get a whole lot better!

I'd probably go with steroid records first.

How many of his steals came after the pitcher ran out of pickoff attempts?

If Acuna played in the 80s, he would have stolen 100+ bases.

That was my immediate question.

Definitely true. Rickey Henderson would have been on 3rd base every time he reached with these stupid rules.

The only good rule the MLB made is enforcing a pitch clock.

DH in NL sucks
No shifting sucks
Extra innings base runners suck
Minimum pickoff attempts suck

I’ve watched less baseball this year than ever. Not the game I grew up with

a lot of his steals were on the first pitch to the next better. he doesn't dick around and wait for batters to ruin his opportunity to steal.

The OP thinks 2004 Scott Posednik is a better base stealer than Ronald Acuna Jr.

Seriously. I’m sure tons of players have 70+ SB this year since it’s become so easy.

He also doesn't realize that this would have been a legit 40/40 season for Acuña under the old rules.

The melts people are having over this are delicious and sad at the same time.

Holy shite what a terrible take. The DH rule has made NL baseball watchable again

Which luckily isn't a thing in the post season. I didn't realize that until someone on here pointed it out a few weeks ago.

It is incredibly more strategic. I thought like you until I realized its actually a really great rule.

Two throw overs may mean that the runner may be more inclined to run, but the rule says the pitcher can still throw over a 3rd time, he just needs to get the runner out or he takes 2nd. This makes it a chess match of a runner being more agressive along with them knowing that they can still get picked off. Its a good equalizer.

Plus Acuna didnt take advantage of a pitcher throwing over 2 times before stealing. He just said "frick you I am taking this base"

Yep, he did it on the first pitch to Albies.

Everyone should just do 40-70 then since it’s so easy now.
