Aaron Rodgers’ future is certainly up in the air in Green Bay after the Packers drafted Jordan Love out of Utah State in the first round of last year’s NFL Draft.

But the future Hall of Fame quarterback reportedly wants assurance from the team that he will be their starter beyond the 2021 season.

ESPN reported, citing multiple sources, that Rodgers doesn’t want to be a "lame-duck" quarterback. The Packers chose not to alter Rodgers’ contract last Friday. Instead, they paid him a $6.8 million roster bonus and they elected not to convert it into a signing bonus, which would have freed up more than $4.5 million in salary-cap space for the team this season, according to ESPN.

The Packers could adjust his contract by converting a large part of his $14.7 million base salary into a signing bonus, which would give the team more cap space this season, but it would increase the amount of dead money on next year’s cap if they decided to part ways with the quarterback.

That sounds like insecurity to me. He acts like a woman. I doubt he even fricked Olivia Munn.

Think it was still dumb of them to draft a QB in the first round when you have still have a MVP caliber QB and a team with needs

Huge Rodgers fan, but even I have to say this sounds a little gay. Like he wants a different type of extension from Gutekunst and Lafleur.

GB is a mess if he needs assurances.

Jordan Love is a bum and still never should have been drafted.

I think it's a fair ask of him considering how he became the starter in GB.

I am not a big fan of how much power quarterbacks have in the NFL.

Having said that, it is surprising that Rodgers didn't force the Packers to trade him when they spent their first rounder drafting a guy who was intended to replace him. They, more than other teams not named Buffalo, need to build through the draft because free agents are less interested in signing with a small market team with miserable weather.

You only have so many elite quarterbacks in the NFL and he's one of them. When you have one, your franchise needs to build around him for real shots at the Lombardi. Green Bay has been a failure in that respect.

A disgruntled legendary aging Qb is the Packers way.

Alpha move would be for Rodgers to push for a trade this offseason (Seattle / Houston / Denver / Pittsburgh all would have made sense) instead of lamely begging GB to promise him

Possibly. But how long is Farve going to play? Gotta grab the guys you like. This Rodgers kid might be legit even if he has to sit the bench for a while.

How? They want him to restructure his contract. He’s telling them what he wants if they want to get what they want.

Y’all are so overly emotional about Rodgers on here

He should demand a trade. There are plenty of teams that would want him and pay him. Green Bay is a village.

Rodgers doesnt seem to agree. A Hall of famer shouldnt need assurance if it was a bum behind him. Only from someone that he felt was pushing him

Didn't the Packers do that when they drafted Rodgers?

Good QBs aren't A dime a dozen and if you like a guy you draft him even if he won't play for a few seasons.

I mean the Celtics drafted Bird and he wasn't even going to leave College for another year. I don't know about their draft pick but you don't pass on generational talent, if they believe that. Its not like every year there's great QBs in the draft.
