False.

As a Denver fan, he is on the hot seat for being replaced in year 3.

Nobody says anything about the "what if scenario" 2003 LSu v 2003 USC.

You can only judge how those teams did against their peers in the specific year they played.

It's already been established that LSU's had a higher winning percentage, so once again we agree LSU faced better competition.

However, 1995 Nebraska is easily the most dominant team in college football history.

Again, 1 and 1a scenario

Which can't be held against Nebraska considering they did not have the benefit of a conference championship game or playoff to beef up their opponent's winning percentage. If 2019 LSU had been playing by the standards 1995 Nebraska played with, they would have played their last game of the season against Texas A&M on November 30 before playing #2 Ohio State sometime around New Years Day for the national championship. When you remove those two extra games 1995 Nebraska did not have the benefit of playing, LSU's opponent winning percentage drops to a very comparable level as 1995 Nebraska's.

If you’re looking at dominance + strength of schedule, I think there are only 4* logical choices (the 4th completely depends how you view the 2020 season)

1971 Nebraska
1995 Nebraska
2019 LSU
2020 Alabama

I just can’t put 2001 Miami with those teams. They beat 6 ranked teams but the highest was #8. They won by the skin of their teeth against #18 Virginia Tech and #21 Boston College. I think the mythical reputation of that team has more to do with the pro careers of the players.

no, the GOAT talk started when they beat two ranked teams (syracuse and Washington) in back to back weeks by a combined score of like 130-6.

TD wouldn't exist without 10 years of that constant debate.

On and on and on...

So we ignore the things that make LSU look better

Or perhaps we have less cup cake games, awfully convenient of you to assume we keep all the garbage teams and only lose the good ones on the schedule.

Nebraska's OOC schedule was made up of all major conference teams and and only had 7 conference games. To make it comparable, we would have to drop one a game to get to the 11 game season. The obvious one to drop is Northwestern State, as they were a non-major school and Nebraska had none of those on their schedule. For the sake of this argument, we can consider A&M to be an OOC game since they are "new" to the SEC. Now the season are equal in "quality" and number of games. Like you said, we would have played tOSU for the championship. We'll say they played the same 11 game season and were undefeated. They lose to us to finish 11-1.

Adjusting for an 11 game regular season, LSU's opponents in this scenario go 80-59, which gives them a 57.52% winning percentage, which is still higher than Nebraska's 53.96%. I really don't get why you keep trying to make this argument. No matter which way you slice it, LSU faced better competition.

i mean it’s not really an assumption.
the Conference Championship and 1st round playoff games didn’t exist for Nebraska in ‘95, so that’s the 2 that would get removed.

under no circumstances would we play Northwestern State in either of those games.
and while not “technically” impossible, we ain’t playing Utah State in a playoff game either.

It’s weird because there is no debate. LSU beats USC pretty easy.

well considering you claim Nebraska only played major OOC opponents, i ignored the rest of it.

they played Pacific that year.
who is so major they quit playing the sport the following season.

also, it’s futile to guess as to who would schedule who in a hypothetical. so you only remove the non-existent games that are not actually scheduled by the schools.

i mean you removed A&M because they would be “non conference”.
who’s to say we wouldn’t play them?

we played them every year from ‘86-‘95
so if scheduling by 1995 methods, why would you assume we remove a team we actually played in ‘95?

ETA: if you are meaning the way LSU scheduled pre-conference championship games, we played them in '91 as well.

i'll apologize for misunderstanding your definition of "major conference", as i took it to mean Power 5.

I don't think I'm the only one who wouldn't consider the old Big West as having been "major".

i already admitted to mostly ignoring it when you talked about Pacific

Different game in all those years. Rules are not the same.

The last decades OL line only hand fights with DLine, as opposed to say the 1960's when hands in and elbows out of flag for holding called even if no holding

2019 LSU and 2005 USC (before the Texas game obviously) are two of the greatest football teams I’ve ever seen when you combine talent and excellence at the highest level. The peak of those two squads.

I hate to say it because I want to be objective but I don’t consider 2020 Alabama the peak of Saban Alabama because I think their 2019 team was more talented and some of Bama’s most talented teams of the last decade were those who lost 1 game during the regular season. Now, though Alabama barely held on against Florida and didn’t obliterate Notre Dame in the playoff game and did all this in a messed up Covid season, the scores speak for themselves they were a machine in dismantling opponents generally speaking (Covid and the coaching exodus hurt LSU big-time, as 2021 in Tuscaloosa proved LSU would’ve made 2020 in DV more competitive in any regular year I believe to this day).

I always found it funny people think 2019 LSU would dominate Miami/nebraska/2020 Bama by multiple scores.

They beat Bama, auburn, and Texas by 1 score. It'd be close, but LSU gets the nod because offensively they were insanely good.
