the NAIA Football Championship Series Finals are being played at Eddie Robinson Stadium on the Grambling St. campus at 6:05 tonight

#1 Morningside (Iowa) Mustangs vs. #2 Marian (Ind.) Knights

and yes... there is a live stream of the game

interesting choice of Grambling to host the Championship because there nearest NAIA football team to Grambling is at least 2+ hours drive away (quite frankly... it's surprising that Louisiana has a number of NAIA schools yet none of them have football... apparently LSU Baton Rouge doesn't allow LSU Alexandria or LSU Shreveport to offer football)

this is the 1st of a 2 year contract... so the NAIA Finals will be a Grambling again next year

Dang, that would be fun to see other LSU squads.

Alexandria & Shreveport are in the same conference

their basketball & baseball rivalries are pretty fun b/c both teams are usually fairly good (relatively speaking)

if both schools had football teams and a big football rivalry... that'd be really fun for CenLA & NWLA

ETA: 2 years ago LSU Shreveport made the NAIA Men's Basketball semifinals while LSU Alexandria advanced 1 round further to the Finals in that same tournament

Really? Why would LSU BR campus want to stand in the way of that?

could be a number of reasons...

from something as mundane as not wanting to "damage" the "LSU football brand"

to something as understandable as "small school athletics will be a financial loss 100% of the time and a football team would add a HUGE financial burden to the Alexandria & Shreveport campuses"

That is pretty weird.

Hopefully not this. Would be petty as frack if so.

there's a reason Shreveport, Alexandria, & Eunice athletics are forbidden from using the "Geaux font"... and this is the exact reason

the academics side for the 3 satellite schools use the "Geaux font"... but athletics is forbidden

also... same reason they aren't all known as "Tigers" but rather LSUA is the Generals, LSUS is the Pilots, & LSUE is the Bengals

ETA: by comparison... University of Michigan has a satellite school in Dearborn that's NAIA

the UM-Dearborn teams are known as the Wolverines, use the maze & blue & the big M as their logo

I can understand the branding this as far as what their mascot is and such, but to just flat out not allow football because of perception concerns would just be lame.

Those schools could play football under those other mascot names their other sports use. Would be zero threat to the main LSU’s national perception.

They could use those like a Triple A baseball team does.

Hey rt3! Just curious ... who won today's game between LSUA and Carey?

Also there's the Title IX issue. Every dollar spent on football would have to be matched on a women's program. Most small schools can't afford it.

I always thought Bossier Parish CC would be a great school to move into JUCO football.

Bizarre. Why did Grambling bid on the game? Can’t be much of a money maker I wouldn’t think.

Big time economic impact for the area. Full sell out of the hotels. Televised event so it showcases Grambling.

It was in Daytona last year. The NAIA felt that having it more centralized would allow for more fans to make the trip.

The score banner for that game sucks. Home side of the field has yards to go with the the down all the way on the other side.

Not true. If A or S wanted to start football, they absolutely could. It doesn’t make sense financially for them, so they don’t.

Seems like an odd choice for the NAIA to host at a NCAA school.

Happens all the time. Indoor track and field is held at South Dakota States campus. Other championships are held at d1/d2 campuses. There’s only so many facilities willing to take on these things so you gotta go where you can.

I coach cross country and track at an NAIA in Kansas. I saw that grambling was hosting earlier this year when doing research for our championship and thought it was random as frick then.

Pretty interesting that they're hosted at Grambling. They have an ok stadium. Nothing fancy or extravagant at all really.

But I guess compared to NAIA level schools, their facilities might be top notch.

I assume this is a good money-making opportunity for the city of Grambling/Ruston.
