8 should be the max. 5 champs from Power 5, top ranked G5 champ, 2 at large.

Eight at large bids would be better. Otherwise winners of weak conferences would get in ahead of much better second or even third place teams in the SEC or Big Ten. The “best” four G5 teams move to the Big 12 next year. The winner of the AAC does not deserve an auto bid. Frankly neither will the Big 12 most seasons.

Crazy but Bama won two national championships under two different systems without playing in a conference CG

Even crazier, a two-loss LSU won a national title with losses to Arkansas and Kentucky.

So after seeing a day of chaos you don't want to see a 12 team playoff. Ok.

The bitching about having a playoff like every other level of football is so ridiculous.

If teams 4-12 are so underserving, they won’t win anyway right?

Why not give every conference a chance that doesn’t involve the “eyeball” test that always favors the same teams and conferences?

This is something Missouri does not have to concern themselves with.

To be fair, those were very good teams that year

And 6 wildcard teams will forever be Super Bowl Champions

We need to go back to 2.

4 teams is too many

With 12 teams, you’d need to get rid of the conference championship games and reduce the regular season to 10 games

I'm all for the FCS model - ditch the pointless conference championship games, auto qualifier for the reg season conference champs, 24 teams in with top 8 byes. 9-24 play week 1 with 9-16 hosting. Move to the next week to the top 8 hosts. Then go down from there. No reseeding, just bracket it up and go. Very little controversy since nearly the entire top 15 will get picked. Keep the semi-finals and finals in the same bowls format to keep those sponsors happy, maybe fill out some of the lower tier bowls with quarter finals.

The dumbest fricking thread of all time. Theres already expanded college football playoffs and they workout just fine. 99% its a top 3 team winning. These stupid doomsday scenarios never actually happened.

Michigan would also get a bye by winning their conference.

This doesn’t matter as much as people think it does.

LSU won their division, and conference, so no.

Why?

Michigan State beats Michigan
Ohio State donkey punches Michigan State
Michigan beats Ohio State

With all that said we are now just crowning Michigan even though there is clear parity?

Get more games between highly ranked teams, no real downside

that's why 4 teams is enough.

people start making these arguments about someone getting left out of a 4 team playoff when the whole idea is to find the two best teams to play.

some years there's been an argument for who should be 2nd when the top 3 teams have a very similar resume. usc 03, auburn 04, osu and boise 11.

if a team can't make the top 4, there isn't much argument for them to be 2nd, which is what the playoff was for.

now we'll just have arguments for the 13th place team. silly. even 8 is to many.

I don't understand why people are so opposed to having top 15 matchups stacked on top of each other. An abundance of awesome football games culminating in crowning a champion.

No, we'd rather see a team get named as the top team even though they may have only 1 or 2 big wins and the rest is just beating .500 or worse teams, G5, and FCS schools.

There should be a 12 team playoff, at least.
