The stats should be reversed, i.e., there are about 10 too many bowls. The accomplishment of making a bowl has been diluted.

There should be far fewer bowls, agree or disagree?

8 wins should be the minimum to attend a bowl.

Agree. Some of these bowl matchups are a joke.

There are too many bowls. I agree 8 wins should be in now since you play at least 12 games.

I don't agree with an arbitrary number like this, because a 7-5 Florida team would beat the shite out of a 8-4 Ohio or Temple or whoever.

Solution:

16 teams
15 games, single elimination
15 sponsors of games
Higher seed hosts until semi-finals
Play semi-finals and finals at some traditional BCS site

Eliminate bowls.

I agree, it has gotten ridiculous, the worth of bowls these days are getting worthless. Especially anybowl that is not a on new year's day.

Also agree with the poster that said the minimum should be 8 wins.

I wish there were bowl games right up to Sept.

Much fewer. Bowls used to be a reward for teams and their fans that had a good or great season. Now, they are given out like trophies to every kid who plays Pop Warner ball.

I remember when a 7-4 LSU team turned down a bowl bid. That doesn't happen anymore.

I agree on the 8, or maybe 7 wins, but I also don't think bowls should be done away with all together as someone said. I enjoy watching all the games, for the most part.

I don't think we'll ever see a playoff, but I do think a +1 is a real possibility in the next few years.

Definitely not. The bowls are awesome IMO and make college football unique. But thats the whole reason why they need to cut down on some of them. It is killing the value of bowls and what they stand for.

Also, think there is a way to have at most an 8 team playoff and still make the bowls relevant.

shite i would be ecstatic for just a "plus one".

I get what you're saying and that's why conference and schedule should factor in like they do now. For example a team like Ohio would have to win 10 games to get in. I'm not advocating 8 wins and you're in, I'm saying less than 8 and you're out.

I agree and Florida fans would agree that there not so excited about to going to a bowl at 7-5. So I think 8 is a good cut off. I know when LSU went 7-5 2008, I could give shite if we went to a bowl that year and would not have cared if a bowl left us out because it was a crappy season. If anything it will motivate the team more next year.

Unlikely to ever happen until someone can figure out how to make as much $ in that system as is made in the bowl system. With the possible exception of the BCSNCG, the bowls are about $$$. It is just hard to make as much $ and spread it around to as many schools, conferences and cities, with a playoff system.

I think the best we can reasonably hope for, is a BCS 4 team playoff.

A playoff is preferred, obviously, but right now, while we're stuck with the bowls, what's wrong with having 35 of them if sponsors and chambers of commerce want to put up the money to host them?

Personally I always hate to see college football season end, so the fact that I get to see 35 games over a 3 week span is fun. I really don't care that the teams are from the Sun Belt and couldn't beat half the teams in the largest classification of texas high school football. It's still college football and I can assure you, two mid-tier schools battling it out would look real good to us ALL in July when we need our college football fix.

So...the Big Bowls are still rewards for having a great season (unless you're the Big East champ, then it's just a reward for being the least sucky). And the rest of the bowls can continue to just be glorified scrimmages that give the coaches perceived leverage in contract talks. And I get to keep watching football when I would otherwise be struggling to find anything worth watching that's not named Mythbusters or Pawn Stars.

I don't get what the problem is. If you don't want to watch, don't watch.
