It appears one of the universities named in this indictment is University in Kentucky with 22,000 student.
quote:
$100,000 was funneled to the family of an All-American high school basketball player by an Adidas rep, according to what I'm reading
quote:
"The bribe money was structured in a manner so as to conceal it from the NCAA and officials at University 6". Wired to third party
quote:
This began in May 2017 and continued until this month. The defendant named in indictment is James Gatto, who works for Adidas.
quote:
"The money was "to assist one or more coaches as University 6 in securing Player 10, an All-American high school basketball player."
quote:
This player was one of the last top high school players to sign with a university in the class of 2017 and had already committed elsewhere
Jesus Christ Louisville, Brian Bowen isn't even worth 100k.

I just hope none of Will Wade's new crew are involved. I couldn't handle that news right now. I'm too fragile.

Pitino is untouchable.
Also, I'm hearing that Miami is involved.

That's why all these 7on7 organizations popped up for football. Nature (or the market) abhors a vacuum.
People saw the shady money being made in basketball (and the money being spent in football) and devised a way to start shifting it their way.

Either they got wind of this through another investigation or through a tip.
The pleadings and the criminal complaint from the Southern District of New York identify someone as CW-1. I'm guessing someone involved in this may have been popped for something else and spilled the beans on this to help themselves.

So 4 assistants are being charged with corruption for doing what exactly? I used to have stuff given to me by reps all the time.

Funneling money to players and their families to steer them to certain folks

That has gone on for years, Sonny Vaccaro was the king of it. Is he not an Adidas guy now?

How is this a federal crime?
Is it because they probably hid the money on the student's FAFSA application/Income Taxes?
Let's strip away the obvious NCAA violations.
The scheme is
-Sports company pays $ to bring student to one of their sponsored schools
-Coaches facilitated money transfer
-Coaches paid "finder fee" when student signs endorsement deal at the pro level
There are numerous industries that pay third parties for referring clients to them. Why is this a crime worthy of FBI investigation?

Who is reporting this income? At some point money laundering comes into play somewhere.
