The main issue at Alabama was that athletes were able to get the books listed as "recommended" on the syllabus as well as the books listed as "required". Apparently your athletic scholarships doesn't cover the "recommended" books.

I thought the bama athletes were reselling the books they bought with aid money to make cash

2 or 3 of them may have, but the NCAA hit a ton of athletes in about 10 different sports. However, I think you can only get textbooks for the class you are in, so it doesn't leave much room for buying and selling. I don't think they could prove any of them actually sold the books, but I think a few did say they gave books to friends. They had to repay the cost of the "recommended" books they got.

pencils, binders, and electronics, out of our school bookstore.

Electronics is the key word. At tulanes bookstore you could buy a PlayStation or Xbox. Not that I give a shite or think they should be suspended, but I doubt this just Stems from pencils and binders

LSU's bookstore has computers, tablets, phones, furniture, all the LSU clothing you can think of, and a good bit more, which is why i said i don't believe this story for one second.

I do think it's stupid to suspend 30 players from a game. That's not safe at all, to the remaining players to be honest. I'm sure they could have thought of a different punishment.

Don't they only have 65 scholarships to begin with?

I can't link it because Twitter is blocked here at work, but I read where one of the players posted that they were told by Charleston Southern coaches to spend the rest of their leftover book money at the bookstore because what they don't spend they "lose".

I can absolutely believe that scenario. Especially given the number of guys that are involved.

Side note here as well. The NCAA does have to be careful here with allowing extra book money to be spent elsewhere in the bookstore (I know the only acceptable answer on this board is shitting on the NCAA) They can't allow a free-for-all where some dumbass player decides not to spend any of their actual allowance on textbooks and instead buy a new iPad or beats or laptop in the bookstore.

And that makes sense. But in this day and age, you would think there would be a way that they could restrict purchases to just certain items in the bookstore with scholarship money. Everything is pretty well scanned electronically and when you use regular scholarship money at most schools they are able to see your financial aid allowance in the system. I'd think it'd be really easy to flag those students as athletic scholarships restricted to this or that.

But that probably makes too much sense.

It doesn't really change the absurdity of some of these rules, but I'm 100% confident that money wasn't all spent on other school supplies.

The excerpt mentions "electronics" with pencils, paper, and binders. I've got a feeling they're in trouble for the electronics and other shite bought and not the paper and pencils.

ETA: I see this has been covered well on the second page. Oh well.

Dammit I was thinking of betting fsu -38.5 earlier in the week but was waiting for first half lines to come out... Game is otb now and -38.5 would be a fricking lock if 30 plus players are out.... Cha. Southern was going to be starting their third string qb and he looked awful against Kentucky state (don't ask me how but yes I watched that whole game)

Just checked, they'll only be able to field 33 scholarship athletes against FSU.

My God, they really should forfeit this game. I'm sure Jimbo won't run up the score, but honestly FSU could put up 150 points very easily against this team.

FSU is going to put up 77 without trying unless they just have a running clock the entire game.

Charleston Southern is scheduled to pay a visit to #3 Florida State this weekend, but they may be without a ton of their players. It appears that their entire offensive line and more than 40 other players will be suspended for the game because of a strange bookstore money violation.
They should consider just forfeiting the game IMO. Seems like it would be best for all parties. Hell, it's even a safety issue for Charleston Southern at this point.

I'd say this shite is unbelievable, but it is the NCAA so it is completely believable.
