my initial hot take over reaction from reading tigerdroppings f1 thread posts that contain embedded X posts about a closed testing session on another continent, is that Russell is WDC favorite
eta: my take isnt so hot, draftkings agrees and russell is +225
ver +285
lando +330
oscar +550

You could make a pile of money if you get this bet right.

Cars look smaller to me:

Posted on 1/28/26 at 11:46 am to weagle1999
They are smaller per the new regulations.
Size Reductions:
"They’ve slashed the wheelbase (length) by 200mm (around the length of your average reusable drinks bottle) to 3400mm while the width has been cut by 100mm (the length of your average chocolate bar) to 1900mm. The floor width has been cut by 150mm, too."
Weight Reductions:
"Bringing the weight down was a key goal of the revised 2026 regulations with the rulemakers managing to remove 30kg (around the weight of an adult dalmatian, apparently) versus the 2022 machines to get the weight down to 768kg. The FIA say this is 722kg car and 46kg (estimated) tyres."
Tire Reductions:
"The width of the front tyres has been cut by 25mm and the rears by 30mm which will cut weight, with the FIA saying there will be a “minimal loss” of grip."
The original post has the changes in imperial units. I just grabbed this off of Formula1.com

Atlassian AI skipped over this part when reviewing the regs

It's the obvious take based on a few things:
1. At the start of a new rules package, there is going to be significant separation between teams, so the leading team may not have competition until other teams have had a chance to bring upgrades.
2. This is the biggest set of changes since 2014. Mercedes got it right in 2014, with a similar expectation this time.
3. McLaren has some recent history of not getting things right at the beginning, so even though they may also have the best PU, they may start out a step behind Mercedes.
4. Red Bull's new engine program is a big question mark.
So before the season starts, George is the obvious favorite. The best scenario for fans is that Mercedes and McLaren are fighting at the front, and Red Bull is just a step behind; that will give Merc/McLaren a fighting chance against Max.

I think right now I would put George and Lando as the favorites. I think McLaren have had a better aero package for the last couple seasons and I’m not sure why that would change.
I’m very interested to see what Aston shows up with. With nobody to hold Newey back I think they will have a very aggressive car. Rumor is Honda has done well the the electric part of the motor but have a couple issues with the ICE portion.
I was high on Williams a week ago but they are going to have to really turn some heads in Bahrain to get the hype back. Vowles had this to say:
“I’m not here to produce a car that is well and truly within the tolerances. We have to push ourselves as a business to breaking point, and we’ve done so. It’s painful, but it means we will never be here again.”

I'm sure Claire Williams said something similar
As for Russell being an early favorite, some people are going to lose their shite. He's so hated by some.

Lando v George WDC will be a beautiful melt

Thanks. I thought the changes would be minor but they really look noticeable smaller, which is a good thing.

It may be the ground effect being gone that helps give that cleaner look.
Back to being able to see underneath the cars some.

Im seeing Russell did a 1:17.58. Just a little less than two seconds off the fastest lap there last year. Not a bad sign for the new regs. Bad news for those saying they'd be so much slower.

Mercedes: “Our car works perfectly, the only thing keeping us off the track is other teams breaking down and causing red flags”

Would Ferrari be better off if they became less Italian and moved their F1 arm to a London suburb?

Please god no...
Think I'd take anyone, including Hamilton, over either of those two.
