So were McLaren actually conserving fuel with Lando or were they trying to keep this skid plate wear down

Teams and drivers must hate all the extra crap for Vegas races. After the race its so dumb to drive the podium finishers halfway around the track in a clown car. To then do an interview which is delayed by seconds due to mikes and hard to understand what they say.
We miss having the after race cool down room chat. And then doing a Micky Mouse water and light show - which TV stayed for the whole thing. Then have to drive the drivers all the way back to finish line and do the ceremony where they are tired by now and the emotions of race end are long gone.
Not to count it was cold but drivers only have their driver suits which are made to save weight. They must despise going through this extra dog and pony show crap.
Lets add in the track drain covers fiasco in P2 rearing its ugly head again. And all the dirt flying up in P1 making it slick as ice and hanging in air like fog. Then a wet P3.
Plus in practices less than 1/3rd of seats filled. And did anyone notice when they normally show actual attendance numbers for the whole weekend they just showed a disclaimer saying “Sold out”. What a bunch of BS that was, protecting the sport and race by not showing actual attendance.
The racing isn’t bad its all the other BS that makes it unlikeable.

Yeah, that part of it was pretty damn cringy. The champagne celebration seemed forced (probably because they were cold) and they were bored by the time it got to that point.

Turns out the whole Micky Mouse bullshite was pre-recorded.

Was the race AI? Had track workers out with full green light. J/K
I don’t like all the extra crap. What will happen is other venues will demand equal crap and then every race will be a circus atmosphere.

Dumb question, but how would they know in real time if they were in trouble of skid plate wear?
Or just assuming due to porpoising and sparks, so with that big of a gap between 2/3, they were being cautious?

Plot twist, Oscar wrecks Lando next race as a FU to Brown.

How about Kimi Antonelli. Started 17th, finished the race in 5th, promoted to 4th, and then promoted to 3rd. His second Grand Prix podium of the year I think. He will probably win rookie of the year but Hadjaar should get some serious consideration.

I hope RPM makes a video again

Thats a crazy view and one can see the track light is green. I think thats the runoff area? Could have been disastrous
They were waving double yellows in that corner. But yes, that was very dangerous.

They track how much skid plate wear they get when they do full fuel Practice laps, then they can extrapolate. They don’t always have to watch the wear depending on their ride heights. I think Mercedes this year mentioned that they had to manage skid plate wear during a race.

Not one of those workers is looking over their shoulder at the oncoming cars. What a lack of situational awareness!

Everything from an onboard camera to monitor, photographers around the track if they skid plate is somehow viewable at a certain portion or an imbeded sensor in the wear part (think of a brake pad sensor)
Could also have been a known problem/expectation after quali and they couldn't change the setup without breaking parc ferme. So they ran their race and when catching Max was out of the question they sent the order out and tried to preserve whatever they could.
Seems like Merc knew that with Lewis in COTA a couple years ago and all they could really do was roll the dice and hope for the best once it was realized.

Well for FP1 the commentator, don't remember who was in the garages for that one, said that the stands were half full and they did an initial pan and it was empty... They never showed another shot of the stands after that.
