The smaller tires would break up packs because all cars have to slow down on corners. Then more HP to allow passing yet have to manage tires not spinning them. It might not be doable at theses speeds but with corners slower it might be slower laps?
The race was horrible because it took out all the good cars. What fun is that? Its not supposed to be a figure 8 demo derby. And the cost to teams every year for 4 plate tracks is massive. I find no joy in high speed wrecks. Seen that with Dale Sr and yet we are still doing it. Thats not racing its survival only.
Teams like HMS or Gibbs could start having all 4 cars sit in back about 5 secs off leader pack and with 4 cars could maintain pack speed. I know they did this before I think Nascar told them privately not to do it. But it makes sense to do it and then wait til after stage 2 to race. How many fans left last night or turned off TV after their driver/s got wrecked?
I despise plate racing like last night. It is no fun.

Burton went below the yellow line.
What am I missing here?

^^^
He never passed anyone for lead
He was bumped and that caused it
But yes in the past Nascar has taken wins away for it. Last night was ok due to the 2 reasons I listed

Sharing for no real reason except as a BP fan it was a memorable moment for me, IMO this was the greatest sustained (as in not just the last few laps) two-car battle for the win in NASCAR Cup history. They did this for the last 150 miles of the race. Once upon a time this stuff was so good …

Fair enough. I did not see where he was bumped.
At any rate, congrats to the failson surviving multiple wrecks ahead of him and winning a plate race. Maybe now he can find a partner with an arse and a face.

Interesting fact: Last four Wood Brothers wins were first-time winners: Sadler, Bayne, Blaney, Burton.

The racing was fine last night compared to other plate races but my main complaint is there were no green flag stops.
The field can really get shuffled; it makes for some interesting racing strategy and breaks the field up for a bit to avoid the big wreck. Making a smaller gas tank for more green flag stops is also a possible fix for some of the plate race carnage.
A plate race winner such as Burton should be a bonus driver for the playoffs. It really screwed up an interesting Bubba/ Chastain battle for the final spot in Darlington.

Instead of win and you’re in… why not make a win double what it is? No reason the guy that is last in full time driver points deserves to fight for a title.
People shat on Suárez and said he’s taking up a spot. Least he’s around the bubble points wise.

If they had any balls, they’d do it in protest.

Just stopping by to say that Burton's fiance was rocking those leather pants.
And Kim Burton still looks great at 57. I had a thing for her back in the 90's.

NASCAR returning to Mexico City next year. Should be announced later this week.

Cup, Xfinity, and NASCAR Mexico will race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez the weekend of June 15.
I’m kinda surprised the Xfinity series is tagging along. Thought that would be tough for some teams. But it is closer to Charlotte than Sonoma or Portland.

Thats also when they go pay per view (starts on Memorial race for 6 races). June is all pay per view so I won’t watch Cup maybe catch Xfinity since its not.

We already have prime so that’s no big deal for me. Lol

I don't mind Prime, but I have it and watch it regularly enough as it is with different shows and programs. I just wish NBC would stream all of their races on Peacock and not just the Network ones because to get the USA races it forces me to get a different package from my standard one.

Sounds like a personal problem.
Streamers aren't the devil like you've claimed in the past

Besides Homestead being in March and not in the Chase I have no complaints.
