How does merc lose the GOAT and then replace with a rookie when they are aiming to actually be competitive for the first time in a few years?

This thread got pinned after the season is over

Can we get it unpinned? The fact that its at the bottom of the page is a pain in the arse.

Would rather it move up with new posts so I don't have to go all the way down to see if theres anything new.

I hear you there, I turned on alerts for this thread a few months ago and that’s been super helpful.

Seeing all the posts about Bottas being backup driver for Mercedes next year. I’m hoping George has to get an appendectomy next year and we get to see Bottas in the seat again one more time with a finish like this.

I'm hoping for some fun chaos with all the new faces, and everyone being so relatively inexperienced

Ha I was unfamiliar with his radio etiquette, I kinda hope he brings that energy next year. He does have some talent.

Options don’t look great for him:

Alpine? Probably will be sold in a year, who knows what will happen there.

Aston Martin would be ideal, but that depends on the idiot son finally quitting.

Are they acknowledging that it's a support team now and they're not actually trying to win?

I think I remember reading somewhere that a bunch of people in New Zealand had pooled their money to support Liam and now that he has made it they will get a percentage of any winnings he might earn. I’m not sure if that applies to his salary or not.

I'm trying to find the article because I remember something similar. I remember at the time thinking "man that sounds like an awful deal for Lawson." Like they made a investment but it was like if he was successful he was going to be paying back waaaaaay more than was invested. Like some company going on shark tank and giving away 75% of their business.

Lawson has set up a company where private investors will be paid back what they’ve put in, plus some. Similar to the band of business people who helped launch the career of Indy Car champion Scott Dixon.

Mind blowing numbers and backers behind Liam Lawson
